Laser cutting would be your cheapest option but as said 3-4 inch diameter will clog in moist soils and the bearing will be shot in no time being exposed to dirt all day. The needham version works very well on clay/high moisture situations call him he’s a very smart and friendly man. I’ve bought a pile of upgrades for my Deere drill and all have been worth the money. Often cheaper than original mother Deere. Not that that is hard.

Thankyou I was toying with adding a closing wheel to my gd, bolting a bracket onto the rear wheels and angling a small spiked wheel. Hoping to crack the slots as even rolling after is only so good on heavy land

I had to google weaving gd. Wasn’t about when I left the uk. Interesting concept of running the disc at an angle. Are you speed limited. I could see in heavy soil closing that slot would take a fair bit of force then if over packed and dries out. Yikes. Needham style wheels self clean pretty good but if your looking fir spiked the Thompson wheel was highly respected in DD circles.

Yes takes a lot of closing and the tyre press does next to nothing in clay soil. The slot can easily be cracked with my finger so I don’t think it would take a lot. Some people may be speed limited however I am not

needhams would be a good bet I would think. Combination of narrow to cut in but wide enough to take some soil with it. His aren’t cheap so I’d get a few cut either by lazer or water jet then you can get them to fit what ever bearing and arm you want.

A whole heap of aftermarket closing wheels available here & in North America

as said, a diameter of 3 - 4 inches won’t work. Will clog with mud & bearingswont last. Even the little firming wheels that run in the furrow to press the seed are closer to 8 inch . . .

have a look at these, or theThompson spiked closing wheels

as said, Australia & North America have 30 or 40 years at least experience of this & have a huge range of aftermarket parts for whatever soil type or situation you could think of

would a straight disc on the one side of the press wheel say 10 mm deeper than the wheel shear the soil to let the press wheel push the slot

i know that when tony was designing the gd they tried narrower wheel but the sank in too far
