Clover reintroduction

I wouldn't mess with that lot! We call them gores and they are super fertile so what ever you do don't let a single one run to seed. They are not meant to run to seed in the first year but some will. I've got docks like you've got thistles but you'll find those easier to kill.

Personally I'd go over with full rate mcpa with a view to having another crack later because they are that thick some will survive. Mcpa will hit the clover but most might survive if it's established enough.

Don't p1ss about trying to scratch it or weed wipe because they won't cut it. Spray it.

Been thinking about your fantastic crop today.

I think the above comment may well be right, I can't imagine how else you'd get such a good cover.
ummm to a point ground here even if just spray topped will come up a mat of them seed will lie in the ground for years
would have to be very crap seed to get that amount and would be eazy to spot in the seed mix

It happens I had one field similar to Duncs , disced power harrowed and sown , came dry after and I think it also helped the buggers to get going , it was a shocking mess , sprayed with thistlex job done but there is a residual effect that it's not recommended to sow clover for 8wks or such after spraying

Tiger x - leave it a few days so it sugars up and send in the sheep, anything sprayed with mcpa over here the sheep love....don't re seed straight away - see what the kill is like...then go again if needed and broadcast some clover

if thats what you got from ploughing..then i wouldnt disturb dirt if possible...maybe an einbock to bare it a bit but only if necessary...maybe try some balansa clover as it will spread so make you look like a genius next spring...remember plant back with any chemical

Ant...

Update: The spray salesman recommended something called Clovermax. It's supposed to kill the same as triad / spruce, but works out cheaper apparently? (cost £40 per hectare for clovermax chemical).

It's working whatever the cost :)

Clover doesn't even look checked

The one patch of spear thistles that inhabited the field before reseeding are couping over more obviously than the scotch thistles that appeared after (had a good look around the farm and there aren't scotch thistles anywhere else).

Not to worry, they're dying now. Thank everyone you for all the replies.
