Clover seed rate

I have 3 small fields with no clover at all. We’ve finally had a bit of rain and I now have a Moore still here so I was going to run around them with a mix of red and white clover. What sort of seed rate should I use please?

Depends how much clover you want - some dairy farms around here are going 8kg cocksfoot 8kg total clover per hectare, a mixture of red white and annuals.
Generally enough to completely negate the need for bagged N on a low input, moderate SR dairy, which means extra PKS can be put in for the same fert spend

With my farmers hat on its getting late for sowing clover seed although it may not be where you are - Red Clover seed is bigger and I always think for over-seeding chuck a bit more on and thats not because I sell seed either- I was drilling my own grass seed @ 18 kg yesterday

12 months ago, weren’t you extolling the virtues of a ‘cheap’ mixture that was only 12kg/ac?:scratchhead:

Makes no odds to me how much people sow -im trying all sorts of seed rates fungus and sowing methods - but you don't need to be a brain expert to sow more seed in unfavourable conditions . Most said I was mad to sow grass leys in burnt pasture anyway. I said then I would try anything and everything to see if I could make it work
