CNH vs Fendt Vario

Fantastic when baling on banks, the control makes life easy.

Only thing I’ve not mastered so far is PTO work going down hills. How to stop the revs just building except for use the brakes on and off. It’s a wonderful gearbox though and I can’t see myself every wanting to go back to having gears.

Revs are rising because it can't engine brake any more so you only have a choice between pressing the brakes or the drive pedal..

In my experience mine seems to hold better when in cruise control, but i know what you mean had the fert spinner rattling it head off when doing some hilly ground.

I reckon the cvx box gets the power through more efficiently.. it does have f/r clutch packs that could wear out tho, where the fendt box reverses on pure hydrostatic and therefore should be wear free reversing. Both the 724 and 4220 have an annoying whine off the transmission at certain speeds, in fact the 4220 is simply too loud full stop!

Is diff lock redundant with a Vario/ivt?

No

I be had 4 Fendts as “my” tractor not repaired a gearbox yet. Done a couple of sensors. Have another I bought second hand which I know had had some work on the gearbox before I had it. It now has 19000 hours. I’ve spent more on JD gearboxes over the years than I have Fendt.

Perhaps I’ve just been looking lucky so far.

I'm not sure there would be much between them in longevity. I would choose the cnh box as they can be overhauled at a reasonable cost, whereas the fendts need a complete replacement.

I’d say more your a caring sympathetic driver rather than lucky(y)

How many of these people who say they get low hours out of them just rive the stick back at the last minute and expect the tractor to sort it out while it sits and overrevs.

I’m guessing that it’s running away with the slurry tanker, where the pto won’t be going full chat 540, I have the same on headland fert spreading with a KRM spreader. Doesn’t run away when engine is turning faster when near to 540, do you have an exhaust brake? Looking to fit one to ours if not £££.

Yeah PTO usually at 350 when spreading it’s got exhaust brake which is great but I’ve never liked using it on PTO work as it just takes the revs right down to almost tickover. It’s great when not on PTO though right enough and it’s all you need on the road.

Having never used one, perhaps just a lighter use is needed?
