CODD and other sheep ailments that pee you off

As stated by @livestock 1 any tips or remedies to help with the CODD symptoms? Had it bad in the ewes last back end and was a feckin nightmare at lambing! So frustrating when you can’t seem to cure it, formalin didn’t seem to help us at our place but that’s not to say it wouldn’t work somewhere else! Vet prescribed jabbing with Alamycin LA and Terramycin spray and isolate away from others but that not realistic at lambing when dealing with hundreds of ewes. Seem to be getting on top of it a bit now but it’s on going and to really pee you off some bought in ewes started showing signs of it within days of being on the place🤬

That's odd because amoxicillin is the appropriate treatment for codd along with footbathing to reduce transmission.

Could see us walking into trouble over winter years ago when we had sheep. Gave them all one jab of footvax and it seemed to stall any further trouble so we could get on top of issues. Sure many will tell me why it was wrong or didn't work but it appeared to let us get ahead.

Suggests Oxytet as treatment and formalin footbath to prevent spread. Formalin does not help with treatment.

All vet advise and foot health bumff suggests amoxicillin (betamox LA) as the first line of attack, then zactran/draxxin and then micotil. Footbath in licospectin but not formalin
On Betamox now, get on a lot better with that, vet doesn’t like you to have lincospectin but depends what vet you speak to! Vet told my mrs that footbathing them spread it, didn’t see much improvement with draxxin! It’s a bitch of a thing, spreads like wild fire!! All bought in ewes separate from others and on fresh ground that’s not had sheep for a while but the ones that come with it don’t need to be amongst the others long before it starts spreading! Soon as I see lame now I jab but I got a hell of a account with the vet 🙈

If you use oxy la you have to be prepared to jab every other day until they're better according to Joe Angel who has done all the research (which may be 3 or 4 jabs)
Betamox la also likely to need more than 1 jab ime.

As far as footbathing, footvax, and the like goes, scold and footrot are often precursors to it so anything that controls these will help keep it under control at flock level, but don't necessarily do anything for existing cases.

I hear different opinions about footvax aside of codd, though haven't used it myself so interested in hearing views on this.

Our vet reckons 50% of flocks can control CODD with alamycin. If that does not work then 2 shots Betamox 48 hours apart plus formalin footbath.
If neither works then Zactran etc should control it.
We have isolated our lame sheep and done with alamycin as some have CODD and they seem to be recovering.

Lots of differing treatments. We have been offered draxxin or using betamox injection plus the antibiotic footpath lincospectin 3 days in a row but instead of running through footpath make it up into a spray bottle and apply that way. It is a horrible thing and well worth getting on top of quickly and efficiently or it can go mad especially in housed sheep.

I had an outbreak over lambing time, as I couldn't catch the ewes and her lambs out in the field to treat and isolate them, I was going around the sheep 3 times a week catching anything that limped or even nodded while walking and injecting them with tylan. It worked very well, far better amoxicillin. Nearly all got better with one jab.
I've got rid of it before this time of year by treating with amoxicillin and isolating the infected ones. About half needed 2 jabs of L. A. amoxicillin though.
In my opinion, the important part of controlling it is remembering its not got "contagious" in its name for nothing. Infected ewes will infect others easily, especially in pens and gateways. Hydrated lime seems to help areas like this
