Combi Drill coulters

Looking at a combi drill

Either a Kuhn Venta LC 3000 with seed flex counters, (double disc and press wheel)
Steel packer roller
Or

An Amazone KG ADP super with rotec discs no press wheels
Rubber wedge packer roller

Want it to drill on medium to heavy clay loam that does tend to stick when damp. Want it to seed cereals grass and beans into ploughing and a bit of mintill.

What do people find best?
What depth will either go for beans
Will one run longer than the other when wet?
Thank you

Used amazone drills for years and I consider them the rolls rove of drills.I've never drilled beans, only cereals and grass and rape.never had any issues but did block wedge ring roller when trying to work when it would not go.had bottom of seed tubes on discs block but the cast wearing bit was too worn and after replacing them I had no further issues.got some heavy clay bits but mostly medium soil.

If you are on heavy wet clay then the wedge ring packer will be no good. I’ve had to buy a steel packer for my old super as it was no good in the wet or if you’ve got stones they get caught in the rubber and either snap the scrapers off or damage the rubber.

there was or is a sulky maxi with press wheels
bought a 4 m one 3 years ago works very well , amazone is sat in back of shed not used it since

As above the wedge ring packer will pack it too tight for the rotec to drill into we proved it with a demo against our kuhn seedflex . That's what the amazone man blamed anyway I wasn't totally convinced myself but they just couldn't bury the seed where we put 90 % of it in the ground in a really crappy go .

Thank you, yes I wasn’t too sure about the wedge ring packer think the Rotecs will struggle on our ground

The sulky looks a fair tool, hadn’t considered one as no local dealer but will investigate

Kverneland disc coulters look similar to the Kuhn with the press wheels, any one with experience?
KV are a single steel disc with a flexible disc/scraper and a press wheel. I bought one last year to get us drilled up when conditions were bad. It was an urgent/get out of jail purchase. I like it to use. It's electric seed metering is accurate and I like its design in general.
The tank is well forward which makes carrying it easier ,with the distribution head out side of the tank and over the coulter bar and the coulter bar is attached to the PH roller. Adjustment of coulter bar pressure and seed harrow is easy with screw jacks. Coulter bar is hydraulically raised and when lowered returns to adjustable stops for depth control.
As to reliability I can't say as I have only done around 400 acres myself with this drill. The drill had done 2000 when I bought it last November.

All the previous comments you have had about the Amazone drill I agree with as I had a demo with one in damp conditions after lifting sugar beet. Wedge ring roller sealed the soil and the coulters could not penetrate and therefore the seed was not covered adequately. Looked to be a strong drill.

I had a 4M Kuhn LC. 2014 model . It was good at seed placement, accurate to set seed rate but it was not built well enough. You will need to be good at welding. Later ones are improved, stronger design.
It did not like sticky, wet conditions too well as it would pick up soil on the face of the disc until it met the disc next to it.

The way this season is turning out the KV will have to be the drill of choice here and the Vaderstad will be just occupying shed space once again.
