After no rain at all here yesterday it’s now incredibly dry again and crops are fast losing potential. About 10% of my OSR died off at flowering.
For these reasons I can’t sell anything forward and for the same reasons I’m not worried about not selling anything forward. The spring drought here shows no sign of abating and is worse than last year, when rain arrived soon enough to save things. Not the case this year. Small harvests getting smaller here.

Some areas are desperate. Only had 16mm since 1st April here (west of Oxford). Forecast rain passes either side. A few miles away have had more. Anything on gravel is not pretty.

We had 5 mm a couple of days ago. The only significant rain since 23rd March when we had 20mm after almost nothing for the 30 days before that.

I’m a let’s be honest about what is actually in the glass kind of guy. Just telling it as it is. 10% of my OSR is dead already. You can be as optimistic as you like but it won’t alter that hard fact. God only knows the seed quality of the rest of it.

We wish. About 8mm total in east Cambs. You’d barely know we had had it. I’ve got some spring barley that will struggle to get to 5t/ha and some ww that will struggle to reach 7

Join the club. The “easterly wind blows all the rain away club”. It’s getting tiresome. Third year in a row of spring drought and each time worse. Can see grain production moving north and west. What do we grow? Wine and olive oil.
