Lorries take it west? Lorries would have taken it to Odessa anyway. Longer road trip but it can still be got out. I’d be more concerned about unharvested/ burnt crops in fields due to conflict. Depends how far Russia pushes Wesr and what sort of vandalism they continue with. Given their present track record it doesn’t look good.

All haulage has got a lot more expensive.
Perhaps if they start running road trains it might have been possible, but realistically it is either boat or train haulage required, and it sounds like neither of these are a real option currently.

Even if the war fizzles out over the summer, the damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure will surely take a long time to recover - do you think there will be much wheat and oilseeds moving out either by ship or rail for the foreseeable future?
From what I can gather the ports are still relatively intact. I'll add I don't know any better than anyone else.

If I was Ukrainian and I thought I was away to lose, I would blow them up pretty quickly. The ports and access to the black sea was one of primary reasons for invading going on the press?

20 million tonnes
Is 800000. Truck loads
In to Odessa. Each truck could do 4 loads a day 50 mile trip
To Rumania or Poland 1 load a day at best
So they need 4 to 10 time the trucks

the U.K. shifts over 20 million tonnes of grain a year most truck loads travel less than 50 miles some of the U.K. grain is moved by ship from the south to the north

there are not enough trucks in the U.K. now and buying new has long lead times

with out the Russians allowing Ukraine to ship cereals out of Odessa the flow of cereals will be limited
Ukraine will prioritise the movement of rape seed and sunflower seed as each truck will Carry more value

On the India front, I have spoken with someone in Bombay today. In the north-west wheat growing region temperatures have reached 47 degrees. They have gone straight to summer without a spring and darned hot one at that. In the south temperatures have reached nearly 60 degrees. There appears to be no let up. It puts our weather concerns into perspective.

That’s the way to stop call centres ringing you, grind them down the English way by talking at them about the weather 😆

Heard on radio 5 live that a lot of ukraine grain still in store as can not move it. They wont have anywhere to put this years harvest..

They are not RT Assured, so they will be allowed to tip it outside on the floor !

I do wonder once this war is over, if there is going to be a glut of wheat available. The world is only really short now as so much is stranded in the wrong place.

Selling it forward might soon be a good business decision

CEO of the company that runs Odesa port on the BBC yesterday saying whole port area mined and no idea when clearing would begin. 18 (but I’m sure he said 80) ships docked/ moored in various states of loading and unloading just abandoned at the start off conflict.
Biggest problem was no ship would be able to get insurance while the conflict continues.
UN is supposed to be asking Putin for guarantee of safe passage but seems unlikely while sanctions in place.
Big pile of wheat going nowhere.
Think the west forgets Russia can feed itself and we can’t.

Didnt the russians want sanctions lifted or at least sanctions on fert export lifted before they would allow ships to leave with grain
