Combinables Price Tracker

looking at new crop prices

is it a sensible time to sell some as there is plenty of wheat in store around the world
rain forecast for the usa wheat areas likely better French crops and all the talk of uk crops looking good despite too wet round here

is the upside and downside in balance and should we take some risk off the table
current prices are a long way above 2016 bottom but less that 2014 average

I've locked in a bit at a £140 Ubnless something goes drasically wrong, there should be some profit in that. Looking about, crops around here haven't looked as good since 2012, and we all know how that turned out :(

not everywhere looks as good throughout the country as it does round here in north north yorkshire and durham and there is a fairly large acerage of spring cropping which ive noticed on my travels both down south and further north , also there isnt going to be much carry over certainly up here .I share your view that at 140 ish plus we should maybe lock a bit in its better than what we sold some earlier last sept/oct 2016 crop and would be a good start when taking the lower fert price weve had into consideration and the unknown brexit effect, so ive put some in a mid and late pool with the option of drawing a % in cash gives us flexibility and someone other than me to blame if wrong !!

for years and years ive been told that what happens in uk is irrelevant to the price of grain( not that ive believed it) this year im starting to think that just maybe the uk is out of the loop, because if what we are led to believe in forward harvest potential worldwide and the amount of stocks everywhere why is forward uk grain 140s its not all currency

It must be linked to import competition? Wheat on May CBOT is $155 p/t which equates to £125 ex farm in the US. I expect you wont get it to the UK for £15 but that will be where the ceiling comes in...

exactly and then theres haulage ,so its in our interest to not over produce and shows the relentless race for higher yields is false . which is why I take some hope from the reduction in ww and increase in spring cropping to help cut uk production and so reduce the need for export . The more folks plant cover crops, abandon blackgrass land from tight rotations ,spring crop, move into other crops the better,so maybe this sfp 3 crop rule etc scheme aint so bad
