Just picked this up from the @CRM AgriCommodities newsletter.

  • Just after European markets closed, CBOT wheat jumped as much as 2.8%, snapping a 5-day losing streak, on a Russian news stating that the country's Ag safety watchdog could temporarily suspend up to 30 loading points in southern Russia for up to 90 days [Source: Reuters]. The market has been talking about / hoping for wheat export restrictions on Russian wheat for some time, it could become reality.

Didn't exactly set the Heather on fire.

Moving in right direction though.

where are prices going

if Russia bans exports up how much
I would watch the rainfall levels in Russia and Ukraine for their new winter wheat crop as if it is a dry autumn the risks or winter kill increase
any one know what the soil conditions are out there
if it is dry then this may be why the Russians are looking for an excuse to ban exports

Australia still very dry if western Australia has a dry spring they may have a lot less to export than predicted

there is also the local problem that cultivated seed beds round here are very dry with most soil moving farmers waiting to drill

The Russian things just a story. Can't see them putting the brakes on exports because of something found at port.

There not like this country.

Can't see Nov futures breaking 180.

Only £2 to go !
Hope I'm wrong. I've a stop set at £185 on my futures contracts. Perhaps rise a bit again tomorrow and drop on Friday. Market seems pretty dead at moment and clutching at any little bit of news. We've known Australian wheat yields were going to be poor for a long time. Snow in Canada doesn't seem to be having much affect.

I miss noggers blog.

the issue with Russia will be the state of the crops planted this autumn if they look good and have established well they keep selling if not they find an excuse not to load phitisanitory reasons is just an excuse
the issue is not what Russia has but what they think they have when they banned exports after the last drought they believed they had enough when they ran out the ag minister got the chop no one knows what they will do till they do it

defra say 14.1milliom tonnes wheat
high end of the trade estimates I am told

if we do have 14.1 million tonnes some farmers have had a very good harvest

we will have a better idea of the actual come next june when the shed are being cleaned out
