2013/14 will see the UK have a higher demand for imported wheat than Spain has. Think about that stat. We have been exporting grain for years to Spain (the EU's largest importer of grain) and now we will have a year when we import more than they do. That is crazy.

Where will the imports come from and are you thinking new crop or old crop?
If it's European will there be a shortfall before harvest do you think? Frontier's emails are starting to whisper of a fine stocks balance pre harvest again. The continuing wet weather is not helping grass growth or stock turn out how will this affect prices and stocks.
My gut instinct is there's still upward movement in the market particularly for those who can get grain to end users early in harvest.
I am often wrong though and wondering what others' thoughts are?

Great option cost, well done.
The hard part with selling corn subject to an option, is when to set on a bull run. Did quite a few over the last few years, and a great marketing tool.
Havn't got the confidence in my crops yet to even consider selling forward, which is a first.

a reputable local merchant (begining with a w) did a bit of a "special", not sure if its still on or not or indeed what the price is now! probably gone upto 190 knowing my luck............

prob should have done a bit more?

i thought it sounded ok, will know in 6 months..............

cheers dh.

Paris rape prices up firmly this morning and rape meal prices, those that missed the £ 400 should see it again soon.

As for new crop OSR a lot of rape has been lost to the bad weather here and in eastern Europe, iam not selling any new crop bellow £400 and even then i will think twice.

Been offered minimum / maximum contracts for Nov 13 feed wheat.

Also some "in a normal year" good min premiums for milling wheat.

But methinks this is not a year to commit to any physical crop sales.

I don't feel like committing to anything just now

Any disasters anywhere else in the world and adding another £100 to prices is not inconceivable now IMO

However the flip side is good harvests could see drops !

On balance I think I will hold right now !

November/Harvest needs to be at or very close to £200.00 before I commit any. The tone of market emails is subtly changing very similarly to how it did last year. So I'm holding too, would also like to get some idea on how my crops will come through the winter :(

To see that LOC's of $12.5 million are now being issued around the black sea countries you maybe right.

So its conceivable newcrop wheat could hit £280 at some point, due to a poor world crop.If you take that view, surely you must also accept that another poor world crop is a certainty in the not too distant future. So why not just keep hoarding harvests until you can sell for £280 ?
