I think @Clive is still holding so knowing how well he runs things I think you still may be fine.

You have more faith in my ability than I do !

It’s not over yet but as always hindsight is the best sight, my strategy this year is certainly a high risk one !

no one can’t always get it right, we all have to accept that

........ we will see

Feed Barley now looking cheap vs feed wheat.

It got too expensive vs Feed wheat forcing compounders to look at alternatives.

sustainable discount vs wheat is £10-12/t

We have had a very dry winter here after a very dry summer. If next summer is even marginally hotter/drier than average, then our yields might even be less than last year. On top of that there is fair bit of weather and political chaos around the world.

I have nothing sold forward and intend to keep it that way. If nothing else I can sleep at night, knowing I don't have obligations that I might not be able to fulfil.

That’s my opinion this year. Get it in the barn first.

At the end of last August cereals, straw, fodder and potatoes were expensive.
Jump to current prices and only hay and silage have held their own . Everything else is on a downer.
Think there are some lessons to be learnt this year.

Would you roll over harvests ?

don't have enough space and cashflow wouldn't stand it unfortunately

in an ideal world though it would be great to be in a position to do that

Even that doesn't always go quite to plan.....sometimes you can hold, hit two low priced years in a row, sell and then find the price rises the following year.

My strategy:-
Sell a third forward ( including a bit on the winter pool)
Sell a third at/just after harvest to ease cash flow when you know what your yields are like
Sell the remaineder when all the contracts have been fulfilled and you are looking at an unpriced pile of wheat in the back of the shed

Just have 4 more load to come out this week and that’s the last of the contract. Buyer coming to “assess” heap left and sell it ASAP

We want the cash in the bank and the grain floor swept and airing
