put it this way, I’ve not sold any wheat yet for h20 and had only done a small amount of h19 before all this kicked off, I’m still in no rush to ......
ive already sold 3/4 ish of 19 harvest not complaining in fact was quietly congratulating myself on a reasonable job well done until today , not a grain sold for 20 harvest yet but if we plant more will seriously think about it

Could get £195/t for low N malting barley now

Thing is its all still in the bag. Think it would be foolish to fix before i see it growing.

Drilled 250 acres laureate its fixed at average £177. Fixed at £157 before xmas.

it’s perfectly plausible yes, anything is right now it seems

my bet is Boris will announce full lock down at 8.30 tonight and if he does stock markets and £ will fall tomorrow pushing grain up another level maybe

well that post was a glimpse into the future ! £10 / t tomorrow I reckon ?

soft commodities surely about the only thing worth buying right now

Theoretically speaking you could get £195, but I doubt you'll find anyone offering you a contract for it now. Apparently the maltsters are of the opinion there will be loads of malting barley on the go come harvest time, so are just sitting tight and going to buy it spot. Heard last night that the Glenlivet has now stopped mashing due to the lockdown so no doubt others will follow. A few weeks of distillery shut downs will drop demand for malting barley pretty significantly I'd think.

Won’t matter too much when feed gets to that price.

There's still plenty of ships moving stuff about.

Obviously not all of those blobs are cargo/container ships, and not all of the loads are food products, but a lot are, and it's not dropped.
Chinese tat has been noticeably absent from ports for a couple of weeks, but apparently that will be coming in again soon.
Some of these South American, South African and north African suppliers of fruit and veg are immense, and the volumes of food coming off the ships every day are mind boggling. Thousands of tons of Egyptian potatoes are coming in at the moment.
No ones going hungry any time soon!
