I can see the wheat price doing strange things in the next few months.

It will be nothing to do with supply and demand, but more to do with the money men investing in commodities rather than shares that are very volatile.

My prediction is to hold on to it....... but I can be wrong ....... your investment could go up or down !! ??

Theoretically speaking you could get £195, but I doubt you'll find anyone offering you a contract for it now. Apparently the maltsters are of the opinion there will be loads of malting barley on the go come harvest time, so are just sitting tight and going to buy it spot. Heard last night that the Glenlivet has now stopped mashing due to the lockdown so no doubt others will follow. A few weeks of distillery shut downs will drop demand for malting barley pretty significantly I'd think.
Ive got one for 500t. Can fix 12 loads when i feel like it.

I said this near on two weeks ago and was poo poo'd ......!!

have any other countries banned imports or exports ?
Something happened to our export of lambs overnight ,
trade has dropped £30-40 since Saturday.
Last week Italy stopped exporting but our country
still relies on imported food. The UK is not self sufficient is it?
The Italy thing is fake news surely? I've yet to see one credible source backing that up, happy to be proved wrong if there is one though, their exporters are struggling due to cancellations from customers, but food is still flowing in and out of the country as far as I'm aware.

In the EU at least borders are going to remain open - the European Commission recently adopted new measures that relaxes the checks at border points and creates green lanes for freight traffic, in order to ensure free movement of goods.

Not related to combinables price whatsoever but this website quite interesting https://covid-19.sixfold.com/

I think you are on the money .
Some of the stuff that was reported is turning out to be fake news.
When the lamb price crashed on Monday the first reports were that
the French had stopped imports due to slow action of controlling people movements.
It now turns out that is not the case but had ceased outdoor markets
which had a knock on effect on lamb .

Apologies this is an a combinable thread but interesting to show how
markets can react violently.

What's the view on new crop barley price? It got to £135ex but come off that now apparently been some trade at that level and back to £132.

No malting premium & IMO this will not change with the hugely increased spring barley area in UK. Treat it as feed & lock the feed base as the £ continues to weaken as the virus builds. I've no idea when that will be!

Beware that feed barley is competing with maize for space in a feed ration and maize has not tracked wheat upwards. We don't directly eat barley but we do eat wheat. A reasonable % of maize ends up as ethanol in USA and Europe and this is hit by the falling crude oil price. This is an excerpt from a local grain trader's market update yesterday;
