Barley acreage down, wheat acreage up so some
failed malting shouldn't matter too much.Wheat futures up £4quid Nov today driven by American market .Biggest negative is the pound gradually getting stronger
against the euro and dollar.Commodities have risen across the board ,it's time for a long overdue gear change to grain prices.

European market is driving the market as much as States is currently. Remember MATIF is a milling spec market which is currently worried about what proportion of the crop in France will be of the spec. You're likely to see plenty of German E wheat coming in this season with Canadian wheat £90 - 100 more.

In the past cheap maize has kept the barley price down but
French maize now looks expensive so surely new crop uk feed barley is undervalued?
Dont the French grow their wheat mainly for milling anyway and their spec
is different to UKs?

Very good question, barley is definitely the value feed grain, could be very interesting if malting demand is strong!
Spot on, they see themselves are mainly milling wheat growers hence why MATIF spec is 11/76/220 whereas UK is just a 72.5kg.

French proteins are lower as bakers/consumers want different products to the UK market, less protein required to make a baguette than a roll/bap/cob (or any other name for it)

If feed barley goes up much more I shall take great delight in turning The heat right up on our malting barley and sticking 2 fingers up to the maltsters wen the germination figure is low😂😂😂

They will still take the grain & sell it for feed. Rightly so, if you buy or sell something forward, the deal must be honoured.
It will be tested before it leaves the farm there no onus on me providing crop if it fails spec. Only thing I’m obliged to do is provide tonnage at appropriate discount or in this case possible uplift in price.
