Quotes of Feed Barley £170 and Feed Wheat £180 ex this month.
Millers bringing in Grp1 wheat from Germany and expect usual Bearish price news as Australia has a potentially large harvest.
Time for @AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds to start talking about Carbon Footprint and details on these imports i.e if these imports are subject to the same Chemical Legislation.
Work for us @AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds in making end users accountable, which in turn will keep our prices higher, a perfect role and use for our levy money.

German A (13% protein) isn't really flowing in, we're seeing more German E (14%) as Canadian wheat has moved up in price significantly.

As discussed before the UK can't produce a wheat that has the same baking qualities as the higher protein wheat grown elsewhere in the world. It has been tried and varieties such as Montana and Maurizio haven't really worked.

It all comes back to the general public wanting products that can't be produced with domestic supplies.

Actually Worsall ( is that we’re you live? Btw)
I think that’s a fantastic “angle”

make importers accountable for the carbon footprint of the imported product
Surely grain produced in U.K. is less carbon footprinty than grain grown in Canada and shipped here ???

but yes it makes food more expensive…….. as it should be and we farners often point out !

people will just have to reprioritise their spending, less on foreign holidays / new cars and iphones and more on food ! another environmental win right there !

lets face it something has to change, society as we know it is just not sustainable

Dont get me wrong I like what your saying but a
government making food more expensive would
alienate voters big time.

Nice idea Clive, but I’ll bet you’d find a Carbon tax will only be levied on domestic supplies. 😉😉

Imports would only be subjected to a CO2 tax on their transport,as I’m sure their production wouldn’t involve emitting any carbon.

All they would need to do is sign a declaration saying the crop was carbon neutral in its production. Perhaps the new tax could be policed by AIC in conjunction with Red Tractor😂😂 @Great In Grass

Very little food price inflation and we can all feel better that all our imported food is saving the planet😀😀😀😀😀

there was a good article in the Times a few months back written by our chancellor. It was a good read / window into what he is clearly thinking on this

if a UK mill used imported wheat in preference to UK then its C footprint would be higher and it would pay more tax …… that makes domestic product more attractive even if you don’t tax the imports

Saw the same article, but will wait and see what actually happens in terms of policy

Sold a few tones feed wheat to ease cash flow

£189 pay now plus storage cost so buyer can move when they want

Used some of the storage income to buy may futures to cover off market rises (or falls off course !) So still technically 100% unsold 🙂
i don’t have cash to carry a harvest - but borrowing it is REALLY cheap right now - far cheaper than missing rising markets

cash flow should never dictate selling - if it does you will never see the best of the markets - if you need cash there are other ways to cover that until the right tine to sell
I like TFF and what gets said at Times.

To be fair @Clive hasn't contradicted himself at all if you read carefully. He is still in the market, and has not let cash flow dictate selling. Rather than simply borrow from a bank, he has taken the money from a merchant to finance his cash flow and pay to stay in the market. Top Job.

exactly why i’m using futures to allow me to cash out of this market when i think its at the top vs where short term cashflow demands

im still 100.% unsold of harvest 21 despite making a physical sale ! my exposure to ptice rise or fall is exactly same as pre physical sale

paper markets really are a fantastic tool underused by so many
