Offered £200/t for low N malting today.

Told it will be £260/t on a boat @ 13.5% moisture.

Holding for now.
I sold a load at £180 as no drying cost, last year I hauled barley to a neighbour to dry but it cost £15/t plus haulage (fresh drier is on the shopping list but just not found the right machine yet.) So £15 plus haulage there an back is making £180 worth £200 to me…. I’m maybe regretting it already though, extra feed barley might be required to keep cows fed next summer if fert for grass is unavailable 🙈🙈🙈

Usual fert cost about £250
If fert going forward is £650
The extra cost is £400 a ton
That’s £20/cwt
Say you put on 4 cwt/acre and expect a 3.25 t /acre crop
You’ll be putting an extra £80/acre cost of the increased fert price
So £80/3.25ton = £24/ton increased cost of Nitrogen

but if your used to selling wheat at £160-£180 and the price is now £180-£200 then it’s about the same
??

hope my figures stack up
Lol

Your figures are ok and about the same the AHDB and other industry have been saying. Great fun being told we are allowed to carry on producing the highest quality wheat at cost of production. With our investment in time and money, we deserve more and should knock down any suggestions that the recent price increases cover any input rise, especially when you consider the AVERAGE ex farm price.
