I'm sitting on the back of some rather expensive fert in the shed . sadly grain traders don't know or care what's around the corner , we doPersonally I don’t see any point in sitting on grain when markets are historically high, my bins will be empty unless something changes big time. This year was a perfect storm for prices worldwide and I for one am not going to sit and wait wishing I’d have sold when things were good.
Trader have our grain sold before they buy it. They can’t loose. It’s no skin off their noses if they have to pay more or watch us grovel fir an extra penny. all My wheat goes to local mill so avoid the bigger traders but I’m open to the market fluctuations, still better in the long run with no deductions what so ever And a short haul that’s open 24/7.I'm sitting on the back of some rather expensive fert in the shed . sadly grain traders don't know or care what's around the corner , we do
How covered are your neighbours for fert ? in my village I'm the only one with some , eekTrader have our grain sold before they buy it. They can’t loose. Around £165 I thinkWhat are oats selling for there. I just sold some more at $ 706.32 a ton. That about 415 pounds a ton. thats More than I paid for urea last year. 486$ November 2020
Most big users are covered about 2/3 rds. Some nothing some all their needs. I’m fully covered. Right or wrong it’s paid for and coming starting Monday. Painful to think about the price but for those who haven’t bought it might not be available come spring. Friend is a retailer and he said they won’t be bringing in product to sit on in the hopes of selling it. Too much risk that come mid summer it’s going to be in the 7-800$ range nit today’s 1350$ a tonHow covered are your neighbours for fert ? in my village I'm the only one with some , eek
big difference. from here they get trucked 12 hours south into the states. Porridge will be the food of the gods this winter.Around £165 I think

Wild ones ?Oats are the new super food at last.
Now that would be handy.Wild ones ?
I'd be a billionaireNow that would be handy.
Yeah I can grow wild oats anywhere. Which makes growing tame ones complicatedI'd be a billionaire
My farm would grow them as thick as dog hair when I came here first, then I started growing roundup tolerant soybeans. With a pre seed burn down and two sometimes three I crop apps of round up I’m now as close to wild oat free as anyone. Still spray for them in every crop I can but could get away with not doing it. i like growing oats but with the wind we can see in summer it’s always nerve wrecking waiting fir them to ripen.Yeah I can grow wild oats anywhere. I find varieties like Mascani at ridiculously low seed rates (100kg/ha) and a fairly robust PGR helps keep them where they are supposed to be, my land isn't very exposed to wind though. My farm would grow them as thick as dog hair when I came here first, then I started growing roundup tolerant soybeans. Lodging isn’t the issue. Shelling out is what I’ve found to be the main concern. With a good fungicide app at flagleaf/ear emergence then straw will be grass green and the heads are ripe. Makes a sticky mess inside the combine not allowed to desicate oats for human use so we swath them but they need to be past any green seeds or they can get down graded. Typically the side tillers are 10 days behind and that extra time is open to abuse by the wind.Uuu
