Just sayin' as the view that spring barley being overdone a) wouldn't have filled the gap of the bobbins wheat and b) in several places looks to have been drilled into tennis ball sized lumps of baked clay.

I'm selling nothing, and rolling winter barley into 2020/21.

I think the money that will be printed won’t filter into our hands for a good while, I’m also concerned about crops for ethanol coming into the food chain. My opinion is a drift down to £120 wheat at harvest, I’m not selling anything forward as concerned about getting nailed by low yields rather than missing out on high prices

I think after the back end of 2019 and now a dry spell whilst welcome,, for spring sowing ,, if we go into a prolonged dry time now anything is possible.. how quickly Brexit is not breakfast news !!... Will commodities be a safe bet ?A lot will happen over the next two months or at least will be a indicator... I dunno ! I’m even more confused...

What are fellow farmers thoughts on the up coming harvest and grain prices ...Will the affects of Covid 19, depressed beef and sheep prices have a say on the market.. I’ve nothing sold forward which would be unusual for me ... crops over the winter had me worried and now I can’t make my mind up !! Is it a year to hold longer and see if there’s more upward movement... Any views would be of interest! Thank you all ...

What can you get for Nov 19 wheat? Over £160/t in most places . Can you turn a profit at that? If so, sell a bit. If not, think harder as to how you can improve your cost of production. We have unusual factors driving markets - export restrictions and protectionism even though demand is falling and there are good crops forecast. I'm still thinking sell something at these levels. The market will be volatile as it always is even without CV19.

Do you think barley will be short? sh!t loads of spring barley sown in these parts

Not enough at 6t/ha to replace unplanted winter barley and poor wheat. I can show some pics of February wheat that won't do 4t a hectare. Overall, I think feed grain will be short. They may even pay for feed oats.

Irrespective of dumping milk / bobbins cattle prices, cows don't get culled that quick. They get fed on a hope. Like planting potatos.

Mother Nature is always the boss.
Viruses evolve and adapt to survive. No matter what we do and how clever we think we are we are always at the mercy of such things as drought, floods, disease and pandemics.

When all this hoo ha ha is over and you really want to celebrate in style with a great night of fun, laughter and entertainment just ring my agent Baldrick, We really are a great double act, guaranteed to induce veritable thigh slapping mirth and the sort of side splitting merriment evocative or the baying masses attending the stoning of heretics, and not forgetting all those hilarious ducking stool witch trials!

Gosh i thought i was the defensive doom monger... chartists would say we see £120 wheat sometime once again, however briefly. But i don't think its this next 12 months.
This super high pressure probably not plan A in rest of northern europe either.
And the locusts are back for wave 2 of a possible 3 in the horn of Africa. COVID lockdown / supply issues importing insecticide might not be helping control measures either.

I was told by my dad how in the big depression of the 1920 s farmers went to bed and there wheat was worth say 3 shillings a sack then all of a sudden it dropped to 1 shilling if they could even get that . At the time I thought that he was overplaying it and it will never happen again . It has always been stuck in my head .
I am now starting to think if ever a depression of world economies is going to happen it looks more likely than ever by the day .
Do you really think that when this is all over countries are going to want to see sky high food prices for their people they will still be wanting cheap food so the people have more disposable income to help kick start their countries economies .

We are in totally unchartered waters now and probably marketing strategies' will have the biggest influence on our profit and loss .
