I came to the view years ago that the ahdb in terms of grain price forecasting operated on a lets keep uk grain as cheap as possible ex farm and whilst the govt where paying acerage payments etc was to be expected and probably reasonable but now im questioning my levies in view of the structural changes and think they should review their interests
AHDB are always pessimists on prices and optimists on yields......or doing someone else a favour
They do the same with lamb, millions of lambs still in the country at Christmas and then they run out every january 😂 Probably doesn’t help that people are fed up of them so when asked to input numbers they add 20-30% 😂

Indeed but you know which way the market/report will be by the price rise or drop a day or two before it’s released.
There’s certainly an element of insider trading going on.
I was speaking to someone this week about it, told them to keep an eye on prices pre report, indicates direction of report. It’s the same every time.

Think you guys are being a tad harsh - they report the numbers, do the maths, look at the trend and let you decide if you're buying or selling.
I suppose Frontier et al could always step in!
Not harsh at all, just look back to last harvest predicted harvest figures they guessed at. If its not fact, they should not be reporting numbers. Not once have I had any worthwhile marketing advice from AHDB, I follow their podcasts and video clips, which are basically students regurgitating a google search. I have far more faith in ADM, Frontier and Openfield, which is hardly surprising, because if they get it wrong, they loose business. If AHDB get it wrong, they still get my money! As farmers we need exact, precise and live data. Every load that goes into a mill, store or port is recorded so they can collect our Levy, so no reason for us not to be given this information unadulterated and before the Trade. And before some clever spark tells me that all the information is available, I know it is, but it is not LIVE, it is historical. I have been in touch with AHDB on this, and they have been looking into better forecasting and live data, but I am afraid they are driven by commercial interests much like RT and Farmers Weekly.

North Yorkshire. There are a lot of big pig farmers and feed mills within 20 miles so always a strong trade as it’s cheep haulage for the merchant

Won’t be many within 18 months. What are they going to do with their FYM? Straw for muck deals are already collapsing and generally (not all clearly) pig and poultry units don’t have massive land banks.
