As much as I think the world price will keep climbing…..I’ve fixed some feed this morning as I’m now getting told a lot of the feed mills are pushing stuff back as the chicken job is cutting back due to staffing issues? It’s all very well saying the price is £240 but if there’s no physical market surely it’s not guna happen?

bit like we are all going to stop growing wheat because N price has risen by many, many times that % ………

Really, aren’t all these chicken, egg and pig producers on contracts?

Did they? How do you know that?
If they didn’t they want their head testing
they should have learnt from the us ethanol industry over the last 15 years

they could price the ethanol and price the grain having their margin covered taking out all the risk of volatile prices
the fuel suppliers in the uk had to increase their ethanol usage to 10 % from 5 %
with soya prices also high the co product will also be in demand
Trafic levels around here are now the highest ever

Has the ethanol price not been going up though? Maybe even faster than the wheat in which case they would have been smart not to buy early? Who knows?

But very risky all the ethanol plants in the USA who took such risks in the last 15 years went bust and got bourght out for pennies in the pound by those who had good risk management

in the commodity bussiness any one who sales too close to the the wind eventually becomes a ship wreck and loses every thing they have ever made

in uk farming if you have it in the shed the risks are much lower

I learned that in 2012. Many sleepless nights not sure I’d even fulfil forward sales.

Believe me a lot of those contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. You can have the best contract but when they tell you they don’t want the pigs or will only take 75% it will not be long before production is being cut back. Less production less feed used! Feed delivery drivers telling me of empty broiler sheds and 2-3 weeks turn round between crops.

But we know that people are drilling wall to wall wheat…..well they seem to be around here.
in fairness I know a few people in the chicken job and they are cutting numbers because they just can’t get staff though
