I
You and Rees Mogg have a lot in common!! Sucking up taxpayers funds at the lowest possible tax rate then shrugging your shoulders as you bet against the population of the surrounding nation.

so youll be holding all your futures a while yet then?

To be honest I messed up and broke the golden rules of trading by being greedy. !! - My intention was to sell at 230 may but when prices flew through that point I got greedy and felt 250 was possible or almost certainty ...... I held on and watched them fall back, stop losses were still in place and even at lowest I was still very much in profit and would have sold before I was ever in loss but i've certainly missed the top of the market so far

So I'm still holding profitable May and Nov positions, these recent events have seen price recover and it heading back to my 230 target again so maybe will get away with my bad decision after all ?

the lesson here (and I should know this by now) is have a plan and STICK to it

what I don't have in common with him is I'm not an elected public servant paid by the tax payer - I am a capitalist business owner with no obligation to serve anyone other than myself or anyone else that I don't CHOOSE to

Well he’s both an elected “public servant”🤮 and a capitalist business owner. His business, unlike many peoples, concerns betting against his own nation. So you see you have quite a bit in common by your own admission. Do the landowners you work for share your casual view of democracy I wonder?

OK ........ I will give all my wheat to the people and promise to never try make money again ....... is that what you do ?

is that the Ukraine situation all sorted now then ?

given the size of my bloody tax bill right now I reckon the UK is benefiting from my capitalist approach ! I think it's time that people who employ others and build business that generate profits and pay UK tax were applauded ........ without them the rest would be fecked !

Would you care to start your own thread to discuss this please, maybe call it "I sold my grain earlier and jealous of the price rise."

Not selling next years crop is not speculation in my book
it is risk management
if you sell forward 50% of average yield then bad weather give you below average yield you end up with a below average margin
if You hold and yields are better due to weather prices fall but the higher yield gives above average margins
this was the case in all poor yielding years since 2007

gambling on beating the weather never ends well

There is always a scenario to fit all situations.
In 2011 this area had a poor summer with yields similar to uk2012.

Uk/EU in general had a very good harvest in 2011. So we suffered low yields, high harvest costs and low prices, which could have been mitigated a little by forward selling when prices were better.
