Just had my grain merchant on the phone to say heā€™d sold my last load of wheat this morning but that I didnā€™t need to take it if I didnā€™t want to:D
He had a note I still had 1 load left so took the liberty of selling it for June at Ā£350.
Shows the difference of location, Ā£320 was yesterday's price in dull old Cornwall.

  • Russia opens sea corridors for international shipping to ports
  • Supply concerns remain in India, US cuts production forecast
(Published 05:20 AM this morning)

(Bloomberg) --

Wheat fell for a third session after Russia announced that itā€™s opening sea corridors for international shipping from seven Ukrainian ports, bolstering the outlook for higher grain shipments.

Futures in Chicago dropped as much as 2.8% on Thursday after losing more than 3% over the previous two days. Humanitarian maritime corridors from ports on the Black Sea and Azov Sea, including Odessa, will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, Russian Defense Ministry official Mikhail Mizintsev said Wednesday.

The breakthrough after months of conflict in the Black Sea followed growing international criticism that Moscowā€™s blockade of shipping corridors in the region had triggered an unfolding global food crisis. Support has been rising across Europe to send warships to escort shipments stuck at Ukrainian ports.

Still, investors are keeping an eye on Indiaā€™s shrinking wheat crop, while the US Department of Agriculture has downgraded its production forecast for the 2022-23 season. The outlook has been cut to 99 million metric tons, down from an initial estimate of 110 million as ā€œterminal heat stressā€ impacts yields.

Corn futures also fell on Thursday, dropping to the lowest level in seven weeks. China has snapped up supplies from Brazil in an extremely rare move to ward against any disruptions to shipments from key suppliers in the US and Ukraine.

The worldā€™s biggest importer of corn booked 250,000-to-400,000 tons from the South American nation for September, according to state traders, who added that the purchase was made ahead of an accord signed on Monday that guarantees Brazilā€™s access to the Chinese market.

Securing access to grains has become a paramount concern for governments across the world as prices for wheat, corn and soy soar. With a gauge of global costs near record highs following Russiaā€™s invasion of Ukraine, a spate of nations have moved to curb exports -- a trend that could see prices rally higher as supply is further restricted.

I hope they've keep keeping up with their assurance requirements....! šŸ˜‚

The way I see it is this and the fundamentals haven't changed.
USA crop rating are dropping by the day .
India crop yield predictions still dropping,
Northern Europe dry which will impact on Yield
Rumour that Chinese crops are not good.

There is,apparently, 6 million tons of wheat in Ukraine docks and the World needs an extra 15 million tons of every year due to population increases. So is the Ukraine wheat a drop in the ocean and the markets are over reacting(as usual) or am I missing something?

Russia opened humanitarian corridors in war zones not all were freely open

demineing and shipping insurance will need to be sorted
Once trapped ships are out will they want to risk a return to the Black Sea

the situation both shipping and grain prices is highly volatile

supply and demand estimated figures out to day
The U.K. is still very tight for grain availability some areas more than others grazing livestock areas less than pigs and poultry areas

Ukraine exports a lot of maize which could potentially
hit barley prices hard .I would say the UK grain prices
are more at risk from downward pressure from cheaper corn
rather than wheat.

The unknown factor is how much demand destruction is there with feed wheat above Ā£ 300 and milling wheat above 400 euros or 400$Us
How high has chicken pork and milk got to get before the worlds people cut down or will people reduce other spending

those on index linked income will eventually see and increase in income but it will take time for this to happen just as the full increase in wheat prices takes time to hit the shops

who has sold forward for less than Ā£300 a tonne

But with limited shipping /train capacity maize will be the last crop to get space
Higher value crops will move first
An article I read this morning said the opposite stating
the Ukranians consider wheat to be a lot more sacred
to their own well being than corn hence they will happily
export corn over wheat if there was similar quantities.

Putin could easily break promise to open shipping. Maybe let a bit out to let the world see what heā€™s in control of and get the west squabbling about lifting sanctions on him once he shuts it all down again.
