There are people genuinely struggling to buy food and pay energy bills and they should get all the help they need. But there are far too many falling into the category cos they have spent their money on non essentials and have only spent a few quid left over at the end of the week on food, rather than prioritise , this will have to change but it ain’t going to happen quickly.
Your right, food is always last on peoples budget and they buy food according to whats left. I think DD are partly to blame. Money regularly leaving account using income that could be spent of food and requires effort to stop them. Giving companies direct access to take what they think they should have and difficult to manage. Imagine if we could DD out of accounts for food items bought..ideal

Careful now. Life's essentials are food shelter and warmth. Only two of these the govt deems to help it's citizens by providing money - rents and fuel rise and govt chucks money. Food rises and they do anything to keep it cheap.

It's sad times when food only becomes important when white folk start dying - or rather when Tesco says bread is going up 5p.

This is merely a catch up. Food is underpriced and farmers are undervalued. There's a reason UK farmers are averaging over 60. How many UK growers are actually pensioners who have to keep going while the masses are retiring in their 50s.

There's no shame in making money from food. It's high time food production displaced Apple airpods as the seasons "must have".
Its ironic that the very thing that is at the heart of climate problems, globalisation and consumerism is now causing us economic problems and exposing our vunerability to reliance on essential things from cheap origins.

A scary future is more like where you can sign up to a monthly direct debit with a supermarket, and they deliver you a weekly basket of food. You click your likes, dislikes, family size. They quote for your full needs just like an electric contract. Sign up for a year. Get menus etc. Just like laithwautes etc for wine.

Putin denies blocking Ukrainian grain exports

Vladimir Putin has denied Moscow is preventing Ukrainian Black Sea ports from exporting grain - and said the best solution would be to ship it through Belarus, as long as sanctions on that country were lifted.
Russia has been accused of blocking grain exports, but Putin said Western nations were blaming Moscow for problems with the global food market.
"If someone wants to solve the problem of exporting Ukrainian grain - please, the easiest way is through Belarus. No one is stopping it," Putin said in a Russian TV interview.
"But for this you have to lift sanctions from Belarus."
Ukrainian farmers have about 20 million tonnes of grain they cannot get to international markets, and a new harvest is about to begin.
Ukraine's inability to export its grain has led to soaring global food prices. It has also raised the prospect of famines in the countries which depend on its exports.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted: "Ukraine is ready to create necessary conditions to resume exports from the port of Odesa.
"The question is how to make sure that Russia doesn’t abuse the trade route to attack the city of Odesa.
"No guarantees from Russia so far. We seek solutions together with the UN and partners."

So Putin thinks the ukrainians are going to send their grain to a port in thw country that is invading theirs?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ukraine have their own ports, if it wasnt for his invasion. Putin must be smoking some pretty strong stuff if he believes what hes saying!

When the people interviewed claiming to be missing meals because they can’t afford food actually look like they aren’t eating then I will believe them. Every one under 50 years old I’ve seen on the tv so far would be classed as clinically obese at a doctors. If pink hair and multi coloured nails come before feeding your kids there is no sympathy from me
Yes and the big fu”k off tattoo they have on there arm (pure trash)

Mr Putin met earlier this week with the Senegalese president, who was representing the coalition of African Nations. The UN secretary general also has met Putin. Interesting to see how this develops.

And why is Belarus under sanctions?
Because theyre big mates of Putin.
EU probably will
Certainly, the tide of opinion is turning. Unless you're the BBC who will print anything zelenskyy says. He could say Putin inserts a live chicken up his anus each day and it would be traipsed out as the top story....on page 4.

Being able to say "weve no problem exporting all this, but the EU need to drop their sanctions or youll all starve" is quite a statement. In reality, he will give the Russian shrug that says "makes no difference to me".
