is that one persons opinion or a survey of farmer planting intentions

i would predict that some farmers in ukraine will plant crops if they has seed and fuel
there is local demand
the big costs of fertiliser and spray come in the spring and they could just produce with very low imputs

my plan for the autumn is to plant as normal trying to second guess there markets is an impossibility
no crop in the ground makes no profit during the years of prices under £100 no crop planted reduced overall profits when prices increased due to unpredicted production problems

it was info from someone in top level management of one of the worlds biggest input suppliers, I guess they have data not just gut feel

How would they ensure that happens? Is cropping not still down to the individual farmers?

indeed it is, no one telling farmers what to do but this was intention (I guess based on asking many). some may have no choice if labour etc is not so available

Don't forget that much of the worlds pig herd is being reduced. eg 23% down in the UK from the latest figures, partly as a response to high grain prices.
That's a drop in demand, in the UK alone of about 600,000 tonnes of compound feed, containing about 70% of cereals and cereal co products.
Similar will be happening in the poultry sector.

Have you bought any ham recently? Price of mine went up about 15% last week alone.

Yes up to £5.50 in Aldi last week

Co op sliced irresistible Wiltshire ham for lads school sandwiches has just gone from 2 for£5 to 2 for £6 so 20% increase
Yes, pig prices are at record levels yet are still economically unsustainable at current cereal prices. Pork and its products is still incredibly good value when compared to other meats.

But will you reduce consumption? Will you have maybe half a slice less every two weeks? Will the lads school lunch become a bit less ham, maybe change to cheese?

Was behind someone in the shop today.
he bought 60 Silk cut blues, it came to £43.70!
I have no idea how people afford to do it. It seemed inordinately expensive at a fiver a pack!

I agree, we are all in this together, and that means we should give our produce away and be grateful we are allowed to do so
