combine adblue storage

I have been told that ad blue stored in the combine tank over winter will crystallise and so needs throwing away and refilling at the start of harvest. What do others do? Has anybody had problems?
Thanks

Never had a problem with it to be honest (NH), just top it up and off we go, I do try and run it monthly during the winter, not that I suspect it makes any difference with regards Ad Blue. Changed the ad blue filters yesterday and they were as clean as a whistle.

Thanks Mr Noo, its a new to me cx 5090 so may be the same as yours.
CX6080 here but would guess the same kit is used through the range. I do know that the later CR's have an air filter on the vent tube to the ad blue tank, supposed to stop any dust/crud being sucked into the tank as the ad blue level drops in use. Not had a problem with ours so have not bothered retrofitting it.

did you change the filters your self our is it a dealer
Dealer did it and stupidly I didn't watch, but he didn't seem to use any special tools, hopped up the ladder and was back down again after 10 or so minutes. Think he said should be done every 700hrs (but maybe wrong) one main filter and then a very small blue plastic type filter, long/thin about the size of a match stick, also a vent filter (but we don't have this, I think the CR's etc do though)

I would get a filter just in case it has crystallised have in workshop they do recommend dropping add blue over winter had to change on cx 5080 last year
Not expensive around £25 I think will be cursing if played up

What happens if you try & run it without AddBlue? I expect it will derate the engine & you wouldn't harvest without it but can you at least run the machine up without?

Chap said it would derate the engine and then after a given time it would shut down, this is a NH other makes may differ!

Does AddBlue degrade/oxidise over time?
They say it does but I have not had any issue with overwintered stuff in a 200ltr barrel. The combine is the only ad blue kit on the place so 200ltrs lasted a while!! I just get it in 10ltr cans now, easier and no overwintered storage, just what's in the combine tank.

Is it much more expensive that way?

Sorry for all the questions but will shortly have my first AddBlue tractor arriving on the farm and want to know more about this stuff.

We have just finished a 200lt barrel started in 2014 and all OK. We were told keep it out of sun light and keep it cool so kept in our insulated work shop

Yes it is but the amount we use during harvest isn't a lot, certainly not 200ltrs worth, tend to top off the add blue tank every two-three fills of the main diesel tank. Just easier for me.

Keep it relatively cool, say 0-25 degrees Celsius. Don't let it freeze, it freezes at around -11 degrees according to Yara. I store it in the workshop, I've run older adblue just fine, and according to this webpage: http://www.inter-truck.com.pl/en/adblue it will only crystallize at lower temperatures (-11.5 degrees). Perhaps not the best source but google around for more information if you like.

"At a temperature lower than -11.5°C AdBlue undergoes crystallization. Although crystallization is a reversible process, it causes technical problems and therefore it cannot be used or distributed. The remaining solution has lower concentration, the deposited crystals clogs the installation, and the layers of the urea crystallised at the bottom of the tanks are hard to dissolve."

@Brisel Don't you have a 6215R using AdBlue? Or am I remembering things wrong :)
