Combine barley separation TX34

There's a plate on the elevator under the platform at the top of the steps
An easy bodge for the height indicator: Piece of wood or anything metal that fits the hole in the platform. Drill hole in the bottom and fix to mounting on elevator housing put a bungee rubber or a spring there & fix other end underneath the platform to that’s it’s slightly under tension with header fully lifted.

For cutting speed assuming manual transmission: Depends on header width, but normally, first gear only when cutting flat crops; second gear under normal conditions with a good pump on the variator.

As for table height you should have an indicator on the floor of the cab. Is yours hydro drive? There might also be a stubble height/pressure height setting not sure may be hydro drive only
If there is no indicator,it will have the 2 knobs and switch to the right of the seat, small knob is ground pressure, larger one stubble height, there is a button on the back of the header height control to over ride ,switch will turn on one or the other.Of course this may not be working now, stopped working on mine 5 years ago,but you get used to looking out the side window behind the header to judge stubble height.

Did think that might be hydro only that’s why I asked earlier

I have the two knobs and switch. I thought they were on all of them but the gubbins wasn't always installed? The header does seem to kind of float which I understand is something to do with that mechanism?
Switch it to stubble height, turn the large knob clockwise to lower(i think),the header should stop at a certain height which can be over ridden by holding the button on the back of the lever. If its kind of floating its probably switched to ground pressure which you wont want.

Well thanks to you all its now getting the barley off of the straw, thank you all. New problem, fan speed tops out at 670. im guessing either belt is worn or variator malfunction? not too much of a worry as we mill all of our own for meal so a bit of chaff doesnt hurt, but might need a higher speed for peas/beans. any ideas?

doesnt seem to work. acts like it is stuck in ground preasure all the time. seems to work alright though if im honest, did 8 acres today alright.

I’m sure you know, but the fan needs to be running to adjust the speed. Probably needs a new belt as well to give it gusto

yes it was running, drum at 1160 fan went up to 670 but wont go any higher. think its a new belt? is there a way to adjust belt tension to the fan to eek a bit more life out of it?

There are measurements in the Distraction manual that give you the settings where the variable pulley sheaves are set up. Also have a look at the thread the variator motor runs up and down, there's lock nuts that set the distance it can travel.

That is definitely new belt time. Belts do not just stretch a very little but the sides wear. As the belt wears it sits lower in the two pulleys and no amount of adjustment will get full speed range.
The wear will be accentuated if the pulleys are not parallel also check the sprung loaded pulley has not seized on the shaft . Take care disassembling as they can be quite violent when they release and fly.normally on these pulleys there will be bolts with long threads but they may need special bolts to enable disassembly.
Be careful to put it back together with the same number of turns on each spring

Replace variator belt and set up adjustment of pulleys properly according to book.- you'll way more fan than 670 ripums
If your only getting about half speed the belt is shagged
Pretty sure that's the belt for the fan and it looks more or less new

Indeed it does- in that case variators arent working right.
Either that or the belt is wrong. We had a nightmare when I just couldn't get the drum speed above 1000 with no load, no matter how much I adjusted the pulley sheaves and moved the variator motor stops it would bottom out on one pulley but not rise up to the top on the other. Local fitter guru came out in the spring, took it off and measured the belt and even though the part numbers were right it was slightly too long. Bought another belt out and it's spot on, the battle still continues as they supplied the duff belt the previous year!

When belt is new and at and at max speed it should be sitting right at top of the drive pulley if not and the pulley is tight shut then belt is worn. The driven pulley should be fully open and belt nearly touching the centre shaft. At the slowest speed the reverse should be true.
If the belt is too long then the sprung loaded pulley will not be opening fully when at max speed , but this will apply with a worn belt too.
Can you get the width measurement off a new belt even losing 1mm will make quite a difference

Hello all

We just had a go at the barley today with our new to us TX34. She handled a crop of weedy beans last year but thats all we've run through her. did a small bit and stopped as most of the barley stayed on the ear, and what went in the tank still had a lot of the beards in with it. Drum speed was 1000, fan at 680, slowest gear slowest speed possible and concave setting 1. Any ideas from anybody as to what we could be doing wrong with this combine? there were also a few unthreshed ears in the tank. The straw was slightly damp but the barley tested at 18.2% with the meter, so that should be dry enough?
you have got the de awning plates in Yes? other than that it doesn't sound fit!
