It’s nearly that time of year again and could really do with belt and braces warning signs and lights on the escort vehicle. Recommendations please.

A sign thats big is a plus, fitted to a van, pickup or tractor thats big enough to block a road if needs be till the combine has reached a field or passing place.

New to me truck, so new signs needed, fitted the flashing lights to grill, easy, and made a plate, that is screwed in place by the number plate holder, and added pins off that, this sign then goes over pins, held in place by R pins, no one will pay any attention as usual but I've tried.

Doesnt matter how big our clear the signs are ,,the idiots dont take any notice and still try to squeeze past .

From my tree work.
You have to be pushy and in the publics face when preceding a large piece of machinery. I like the sign on the roof of the lead vehicle.
Don’t get too far ahead but know your road and where to stop oncoming vehicles if the route narrows. STOP them!
A thank you on the after vehicle is good too.

My last one was on the roof, I don't know if it's just people around here, but no one seems to take blind bit of notice of the escort vehicle, it seems to only be once they see the combine that they react, normally when they lock eyes on you and panic by either driving straight at you or just stopping in the road!

No hedges, clear line of sight, I had the beacons and all the lights on. Young girl driving towards us, missed the tractor, did and emergency stop just before my front wheel, the stalled it moving out of the way.

A bit of courtesy is needed by the escort driver also, I’ve escorted numerous wide loads with no problems and it’s not just about having some flashy lights, it’s about communicating with the other drivers too.

That's normally my tactic, drive in middle of road with escort vehicle to slow them down.

Tractor and header normally best with divider sticking out.

See, thats why you need a *big* manly pick up truck, the vehicle of choice for the modern progressive farmer.

We have legal requirements to size & position of signs / beacons & pilot vehicles.

Police are pretty hot on making sure we do the right thing. If anything goes wrong, you REALLY need to make sure you meet all the requirements, to cover yourself
