View attachment 1004183I have a CX8.90 on 1500acres of OSR/SB/WW/WBeans

I’ve run CR’s in the past and love hybrids/rotaries but it was a bit of a revaluation going back to a Walker on sub 2000 acres, they are cheaper to run and hold their residuals better, they’re also better on fuel and more reliable

In Rape and Beans with a vario header where’s the output come from Walker v rotary as long as the Walker has enough hp, separation isn’t the issue ??

In Wheat and Barley a rotary may go faster but my logistics with two tractors and trailers and on on floor store perfectly matched the output the CX has so going faster means an extra tractor trailer I don’t have…a 5 Walker width rotary would add nothing with a higher purchase cost

Spring Barley is where I struggle but I’d be better investing in a Mac Don than a bigger combine ??

Anyway, I’m happy and the £££‘a add up !!
How much extra output in barley do you think a macdon could achieve?

It’s not so much the extra output as the extra hours each end of the day due to the smoother feeding…
Another 2 hours a day would’ve limited the losses I suffered when a huge storm hit us mid August when 1/2 t/ha of malting barley worth £280/t sat on the floor with half the acerage still to cut ??

Have you tried one or seen them working? Something I am quite interested in (no doubt until I price one 🤔☹️)

Tres expensive, but effective !!
Still possible to pick up flat crops without a Mac Donvio despite what Social media says 😂

in fairness its very concievable to run an lexion 580TT or similar 35ft for far cheaper than a newer smaller combine
570 + jet stream be better ,
charlton contractors at dudley near cramlington , had a nice combine ,which dont think it sold in his sale back earler in spring ,some of the lads on here from the borders might know , would be a good combine for some on if he still has it ,

thinking of getting our own combine after years of contractors. which make and model would everyone choose for the job.
we have all major dealers reasonably close by. cutting 800 acres wheat, barley and osr and need to make a good job of chopping and spreading the straw.
we will also bale a reasonable amount.

Used lexion 600tt or CR9080/90 and have a relaxed harvest. You’ll do 800ac in 80 hours. Thorough winter service in house and they’ll last for years.

My neighbours tried one apparently it was amazing in brackled/laid barley. Like doubling forward speed and halving fuel use and reducing losses to near zero. Must be good as i hear it’s ordered and seriously expensive. To partner a big lexion.

Priced a new 7.5m macdon £70k, not sure how much premium over vario. If it would collect brackled barley and last for 2 combines then it might be worth it.
Not sure the 7.5m versions are flex drapers. You would definitely want a flex draper if wanting to shave the ground

Since most/all manufacturers now produce their own draper headers, why do they not fit them to their demo machines?

Yes, they are expensive. But if they make their machine look better/improve output. Or am I out of touch with demo machines? 🤔

Can shave the ground with a 7.5m header no problem but I would think you’d struggle once you get wider.

Impressed how you do this on your moss or whatever you call it. If you grow barley on black round here and it goes flat all that happens is you go ploughing as it pushes up and you spend more time in reverse than going forward.

Think that will happen with any header on that sort of ground, need patience and a low N program.
