Combine headers and OSR

When cutting OSR is there an advantage to a extended header?

Easier cutting?

Less losses?

Are these figures quantifiable?

And is a header extension (assuming the standard item hasn’t got a fancy extending section or power flow belts etc) a worthwhile investment cutting 40-50 acre OSR/year?

Not sure on ac cutting but definitely a big advantage even in wheat being able to push that knife out to drop heads under auger improves output significantly

I cut with a standard one up to about 100 acres losses are acceptable, use of a good pod sealer is helpful

They're a lot better in stuff that some is standing tall and other parts have swung over I remember when we got a lexion demo and I was cutting with our standard header in crops like I described and it was like night and day I had half the width of the header coming over the back and up the windscreen the other half feeding in fine . The lexion just took everything with vario cutterbar no bother

We made the decision to get a contractor with fancy new Combine in to cut rather than continue with our older combine and standard header. Losses saved more than covered the cost of having them do it.

Previous combine didn't have a vario header, new one has and the difference is incredible.Lot less header losses with OSR and increased performance in tall cereal crops or ones that are leaning .

have a Biso head with adjustable knife to auger distance, twin side knives etc no ideas on cost saving but a lot easier in rape and tall cereals.
