Come on Lidl

If you look at the "British lamb chops" picture - the packet behind has a NZ flag on it and does not say British.

The pictures make it look more sensationalist than the situation may perhaps be. Admittedly as @ollie989898 says the packaging for both is very similar though.
Yup - I’d want to have one in my hands to believe it. Good spot on the NZ flag too.

This is misrepresentation or bordering on it. If Jo public sees the Union Jack, it’s safe to assume it’s 100% British Lamb. To do this when it’s actually sourced elsewhere and in the this case NZ is disgraceful. We try to avoid Tesco now as I don’t want to contribute to their pot thanks very much. I vote on my feet; I wish many others did!

The ASA say they are not breaking any rules or regulations, in other words, they will do now't !!

So, write to you're local MP and see what they will do..........

Our food standards are crap. You maybe think Lobbyists is only a word relevant to the US. Where do you think all the corporate tickets for Wimbledon, Ascot , Twickenham etc etc go. To our CORRUPT civil service that's where.
To declare food etc as UK you only need to have 66% of it Uk.
So that's why they sell lamb chops etc in 3's. 2 UK the other elsewhere.
Remember when after giving us a choice whether to buy an annuity or do a drawdown the next part of Osbornes' plan was to allow us to cash Annuities.
Meeting of said useless servants and top reps of the assurance industry.
Interestingly but certainly not surprising to me the meeting at Gleneagles had no minutes taken and the idea was dumped. Another example of a junket at great cost to us all. The internet is wonderful because all these faceless Yes Minister types are being held to account more and more.
The b#stroids are still running and hiding but not as easily.

This will be the same Lidl that folks on here regularly sing the praises of ?

Why do they do it ? Because they can.
Why can they do it ? Because they are more powerful than any regulatory body.
Why are they so powerful ? Market share.
The issue that all of you, and your national representative bodies, refuse to address.

I put the below link on another thread, but feel it is important enough to re-post here.
For decades the NFU have actively supported 'consolidation', 'rationalization'. Specialize to survive. Grow or go.
They apply this philosophy both to farmers and to their customers, the retailers.
It is a blind alley. The ultimate in self-destruction, of a union and of an industry.
Compare this policy to the below:
More producers. More customers. Diversity. Resilience. Sustainability.

IIRC Tesco and Sainsbury have been accused of misleading packaging in the past.Must be quite soul destroying for farmers who have nurtured and reared their livestock to the best standards possible to then discover the supermarkets have been importing Polish Beef and being disingenuous over the Lamb packaging.
I'm not a member of the NFU so am unable to approach them, however, someone here might be able to do so.

Have I missed the point somewhere?

Is the packet that says " British Lamb Chops" UK lamb or not ? I would think it is.
The other very similar packet says " Lamb Chop" is the produce of New Zealand if I have understood it correctly.

So we have a case of imitation packaging, but not "British Lamb Chops" containing NZ lamb

Or have I misunderstood?

Just liked your post to let you know you're not shouting into a void. I don't quite know how I feel about the landworkers' alliance as an organisation, but there's a lot in that post that I do agree with: small scale; diverse; resilient; sovereign. That is how the world should be.

I was chatting to my dad about the type of hen I want to get for my hobby flock (very modish, I know...). We ended up talking about purebred Vs some proper commercial hybrid strains. I couldn't quite express why at the time but I felt very negative towards the hybrids. I think sovereignty is the word I was grasping for; I don't want to buy into some system which obliges me to stay in the system for ever more (like we have with the pigs: bought-in hybrid breeding stock, weekly bill for AI etc etc).

I guess it's just my inner radical/romantic fighting with the conventional conservative/capitalist society we inhabit.

Legal or not it seems misleading. I think there are enough farmers on here to kick up a fuss about it and plaster it on social media etc.
Complaining to the relevant authorities would seem to be a good idea too?
It might take a bit of time and effort but if you as farmers cant be bothered to protect your industry who will.

Before everyone says the NFU, how many of you have contacted the local members about this sort of thing?

Yes, the pictures definitely go together. The images were taken in Tesco chichester store. We have an ex student who lives and works down there. He is now a consultant in the sheep /cattle industry and has worked with the likes of Ritchey and others on EID in the Industry. Do not knock him because he is a Consultant, he is a very knowledgeable chap.

One photo says leg and one says chops. They front doesn't relate to the back.
