Come on Lidl

Costco are supplied by Scotbeef, last I heard. It’s the best of beef and is my first choice if I run low of my home produced.
Well his dwindling customers appear to have a different view and I can vouch for the quality having gone down personally. I think if you project yourself as a local village butcher sourcing from local farms then I doubt you would be confident to open packs of Costco steaks in front of your customers? I wouldn't be.

Too true, and it’s a few years since I had any from there, when I think about it.

Could I suggest EVERYONE !!!! fills in the on-line form to Trading Standards, we will then compare the response we get and decide the next course of action.

What are you going to complain about though? That NZ lamb has an NZ flag on the front, or that the country of origin of NZ leg of lamb is clearly marked on the back label, but not on the front label of a different product?

Misrepresentation: what part of the product is British or English ?

If it is from NZ, then why use the Words English or British on the front of the packaging if not meant to mislead ? As a commonwealth Country, why not use the NZ flag ?

The question is simple, who would win the Court Case ??

You are assuming that the pictures of the front and back are from the same product, aren’t you?

If the pictures are true of the misleading packaging then ask to speak to the manager right away. Why faff around as this is your livelihood. Embarrass them, tell the other shoppers if the manager will not. Use your local NFU structure to speak to the local paper if need be.
By all means try Trading Standards but I can assure you that the supermarket will afford bigger lawyers and fees and prove they have done nothing illegal, just dodgy.
My understanding up here is that LIDL and AldI source 100% Scotch Farm Assured meat, pork and poultry, Morrison not far behind. The blue thistle HAS to be Scottish start to finish, no exceptions.

Yes, I am, as I assume are the biggest majority of shoppers. If it's say's British Beef, I assume it's British Beef (or Lamb or Pork or Chicken)

Nope. You’re wrong. Look closer. The back label is from a NZ leg of lamb - the front is of British meat. The “majority of shoppers” would be picking up an item of shopping - not being conned by some internet hoax as you have been.

Believe nothing if you don’t see it in the flesh, and stop assuming.

.......and you're point is ?

All pre-packed food requires a food labelling that display certain mandatory information. All foods will be subject to general food labelling requirements and any labelling provided must be accurate and not misleading.

My point is that there’s no credible evidence of any mislabelling and all this thread does is show up a bunch of semi-literate farmers jumping on a bandwagon to “burn the witches”, because they feel hard done by the people who sell their produce for them.

Well, you may have a point, the photos could be false, however I have seen it first hand with Pork product masquerading as British, and when you read the back the pork is from Denmark.

However, as you suffer from poor eyesight, I will tell you exactly what is says on the Tesco Item.

On the front it say's British and also has a full colour Union Jack.

On the back it states: Produced in New Zealand packed in the UK for Tesco Stores Ltd.

Now, your assumption is the photos are false, farmers are semi-literate and their is a witch hunt, mine is that this is intentionally misleading for the average person shopping to make them think they are buying British.

Everyone else can make up their own mind......

Just to reinforce my earlier point that it is p!ssing in the wind trying to do anything about all of this, the below rather pertinent comparison has been made today by the School for Social Enterprise.
Tesco run the country. Not your elected representatives. Not trading standards. Not the advertizing standards authority. Tesco.
And until you accept that, and change it, you're wasting your breath.

  • Yesterday, the chancellor announced a £750m coronavirus package for charities, which you can read about here, with reaction from charity and social enterprise organisations here. I get emails if I get too political, but for context, Tesco will receive a £700m business rate holiday over the same period.

Actually, on the top left photo there’s a rigid carton label that says “Lamb chops” and on the top right photo there’s a flexible shrink wrap that says “whole leg of lamb”. You may think that they are taken of the same product and are the subject of a cunningly deliberately disingenuous labelling campaign by Tesco, but I beg to differ and think it’s a deliberately disingenuous smear campaign by someone anti-Tesco. And yes, others can make up their own minds.

Anyway even if the photos provided have been faked...the op @Surgery said he’d been in and seen the Union Jack on a New Zealand leg of lamb...

That was written, but I don’t believe it. Remember the NZ flag contains the union flag, so it would be easy for the OP to confuse the two. And given that they didn’t manage to take a photo when pretty much all of us carry a camera 24/7, and nobody else on here has seen it, I’d question their credibility.
