That was written, but I don’t believe it. Remember the NZ flag contains the union flag, so it would be easy for the OP to confuse the two. And given that they didn’t manage to take a photo when pretty much all of us carry a camera 24/7, and nobody else on here has seen it, I’d question their credibility.

If supermarkets are deliberately passing off 'foreign ' produce as British or at least attempting to mislead then I think British farmers all need to make an effort to do something about.

I do wonder about some of these claims though, as you say its easy enough for everyone to photograph it. These stories come up all the time so whenever I'm back in the UK I tend to go to the supermarkets to see what all the fuss is about. To be honest I've never found anything that confused me as to its origin.
I have noticed that many UK supermarkets DO seem to do a great job at promoting British produce. There is also a lot of different supermarkets to choose from, unlike here, so if you dont like one go to a different one.

I find most supermarkets appear to promote British produce with banners all over the shop doing so but look on the shelves and the products are mainly foreign. I notice this most with apples as I am an apple grower but they do it on other stuff too.
Banners all down the fruit aisle promoting British apple season but of the 20 or so different apples available the selection of British apples is limited to some undersized mixed bag of "Red Apples" and some poor quality bruised Bramley. No idea since when we were allowed to sell a mix of varieties and label them as "Red".
You are more likely to find NZ Cox than UK.

Instead of bashing all the supermarkets and taring them with the same brush, try and push the ones who are running 100% British meat on social media.

Good label with Aldi and locally sourced it seems (somebody else said that the Scottish stores sell Scottish meat), get the positive measages out there in the time when there is only bad news.

The wife took these out for our steak sandwich supper. Thrown into the pan for a few minutes, couple of slices of onion and melt a slice of cheese and bunged into a pita bread. Beautiful.

Enough for four of us and the kids loved them! Let the housewife know how easy it is to make a good meal and not buy mince all the time. Not expensive either.

Just a thought.

When I was last over I found some NZ apples in Morrisons, I think they were Smitten, anyway I do like a Kiwi apple so bought some even though they were a bit expensive (not as bad as the Kiwifruit though)
Don't know what the hell they did to them on the way over but they tasted nothing like the local ones:yuck:

Over here I wont buy oranges unless they're from California, Just don't Like the NZ and Aussie ones. One of the local supermarkets sometimes has Italian Kiwi Fruit WTF!
Amazing how much fresh food is exported round the world.

Would your point be answered by the fact that the house wife has already emptied the stores supplies of great British produce?
Have you noticed that busy stores usually have shelf stackers constantly shuffling stuff around to give an image of a great supply to chose from?
After all.
We've seen how quickly a stores ration of bog roll can disappear when it's in demand.

Or maybe the massive supply needed of said great British produce wasn't even there in the first place, with the greater amount being just second rate.

Anyway even if the photos provided have been faked...the op @Surgery said he’d been in and seen the Union Jack on a New Zealand leg of lamb...
Wife saw it , I know that the nz flag has the Union Jack in but it was the way the label showed it that confused her to start , the Union Jack was clearly shown one side of the price-weight label while the remaining part of the Nz flag was the other side , if it were all together then there would be no problem as far as I can see.

So it was the NZ flag then, but with a price label overlaying? That’s different from what you wrote before.

And it can’t be that disingenuous or a farmer’s wife would surely have taken a photograph?

The price part was part of the packaging not placed over the flag , unfortunately getting your phone out taking photos of labels with the current restrictions etc in supermarkets doesn’t easily lend itself to stop and take photos whilst holding up everyone behind you

Haven’t been to a supermarket for over a month - will take your word for that. Groceries are by delivery and held untouched for at least 24h in the front door porch - the drivers access through an open door and then I shut it and leave it alone. Even the post gets left untouched where it falls for a day.

Was this it?

Can’t say I think it’s as bad as you suggest, if it is.

Could well have been it but let’s be honest my mrs is quite sharp and she was nearly fooled if she hadn’t seen more expensive legs in the next chiller along very clearly marked british with our flag , yes maybe not the worst case of misinterpretation but it would fool a lot of folk full stop , if it’s from abroad then using the union flag should be banned , what’s wrong with printing the silver fern on it.

Erm, because the Silver Fern isn’t the NZ flag? Consider it revenge from the former colonies for us raping and pillaging them before, and stop thinking that we have exclusive rights to the red white and blue overlaid crosses.
