Asking for a friend, he needs to swap out two bearings that have failed. Any one have knowledge of stripping the 205-805 boxes apart? I haven’t seen it to see what’s involved. Cheers.
Chances are that if the bearings have failed in them gearboxes, then the crown wheel gear and pinion are well damaged . very often a new gearbox is cheaper than the gears. Dissasembling is quite easy, to remove the input shaft, prise out the oil seal and the cover plug, remove circlip, and tap out the input shaft. Remove a circlip or two from the bottom and the pinion shaft taps out through the top lid hole.
He brought it round to me in the end to sort out. [emoji23] apparently I’m designed to sort things like that out whereas he isn’t. Teeth were perfect. The bottom seal had gone. No oil. Bearing got warm and seized.
If I recall rightly you have to shim the bearings to get the right tooth contact (backlash ) or the result will be excessive wear on the gears.......................been nearly 20 years since I last did one but I do recall it takes a bit of time to get right...............................
