Its been a hell of lambing this year, one of them years youd like to forget. Enzo early on took it toll on the lamb crop, had more prolapses than ya can shake a stick at , fare bit of miss mothering on the twins when they got back on the moor, fox had a few but lessend them so that's stopped 👍
There was a lack of grass at turn out and still not really got going, singles are OK but twins abit behind where they should be , hopefully they'll catch up when Johnny green shows up.

Its not been as enjoyable this year..
Glad it finished...

Aye its cowd for sure, its gonna hold the grass back a while longer. Rain all day yesterday, frost early on and abit of snow ta finish the day off, as @Nithsdale Farmer said its more like December not May.

Do you vaccinate for enzo @Gator ? Just found out that we’ve got it, I don’t know where it’s come from but seems to have caused the problems this year.

Not ive not vaccinated before , but same as you caused alot of problems. Only way it can of come here is from bought in ewes, normally a closed flock only buying tups in and from what I've been told tups don't carry it.
Beast from the east took alot of ewes and gimmers that would if been replacements so had to buy in to build back up.
All gimmers will be vaccinated from now on and anything that's bought from now on.
Have you jabbed everything with Alamycin LA?

Terramycin, but vet said it would do the same job, yes seems to be better now.

I had a few slip early, but didn’t think a lot of it. Then started 1st April, all was ok, but had around 100 left after 3 weeks so got re scanned, and had around 25 empty.

Then a few still borns which have been confirmed as enzo. Still waiting on blood tests from the ewes. I haven’t bought in ewes for a few years so must have been lingering, but being outside I don’t expect it could get through them that quickly.

MSD are going to have a bumper year this year on vaccine for sure. I have had a similar year to you - ewes started throwing lambs early but for once we got a quick diagnosis . Allamycin stopped it but had to repeat half way through. Vet has provisionally put order for enzovax in.
Love the thread and all the pictures and contributions - it is my lambing therapy! (About 20 ewe lamb's and 1 ewe to go!)

Almost afraid to ask but how did lambing work out @CopperBeech in the end. Don’t answer if you don’t want to.
Always impressed with your positive attitude despite what was happening.

Lost something like 600 plus lambs and got to end of lambing and got handed notice on my tenancy, so it’s over anyway it seems. Pretty crap year really. I probably should have focused less hard on being a good farmer and more on my image and social media profile and I expect I would have got further ahead with it all. Utterly demoralised and fed up to be honest.

Sorry to hear that , these modern tenancies are brutal.
