Fishing must be a lucrative business as we have undertaken planning applications for 6 or so fishing lakes within West Kent in the past 18 months.I know of a few. I'm sure there is a thread here somewhere.
Needs to be fairly near a centre of population and requires significant investment and some good marketing.
Also needs good security from otters and Eastern Europeans.
Not sure on the planning angle.
Would be much cheaper if you can do the groundworks in hand.
Don't just dig a hole and fill it with fish, then expect people to visit.
For it to succeed you need an understanding of fishing and the people who fish. Look for local fisheries, if there are none there will be a reason.
I fish a spot here in Devon and it's £50 per person for 24 hours. You tend to have to fight for spots, and people tend to book up a year in advance for the summer months.Fishing must be a lucrative business as we have undertaken planning applications for 6 or so fishing lakes within West Kent in the past 18 months.
I'd imagine so, but I also imagine it will take a fair amount of time and money to get there.fishing is a gold mine if done correctly, the stats for fishing as an industry are awesome, more people fish in the UK than regularly play football! people will pay for, and travel for good fishing!
This is an example of how it can be done. Very popular and , I guess, one of the most "sucessfull" wet riverside meadows in the South east

I think it depends what sort of fishing you are doing, I don't think I'd pay that for woodlands.£12 a day is steep, but I suppose it is the South East.
Impossible to meet all markets with one pond/lake. An onsite tackle shop is a massive bonus, but needs volume to make it viable.
This is one of the biggest and busiest I've been to.

Winning match weights are regularly over 100lbs, with people travelling fair distances.
They have also hosted a FishO'mania qualifier in the past.
