Anyone have any experience of water sorce heat pumps? Have got a commercial weaner pig unit needing complete overhaull. Have got a 34kw single phase hydro scheme on site. And a small river that i could install heat pump at. Need opinions to see if the investment is worth making..

Thinking of maybe doing ufh in weaner pens and farrowing house using a ground sorce/water sorce heat pump? Was thinking of installing a chp unit but seeams i have missed the boat with them being on single phase or off grid??!

Are the rhi payments still good on water source heat pumps. And what could I run on single phase 34kw hydro? Thankyou in advance!

The alternator on my 12kw hydro is capable of being both single phase and 3 phase. It just depends on how the windings are connected together. Maybe yours is the same so you could run a big 3 phase heatpump.

The gripple factory in Sheffield source heat from the river using old pipe work from when the previous factory used river water for cooling.
I went for a look recently, impressive even though there isnt much more than some pipes and a few pumps to look at.

They arnt allowed to lower the water temp more than 2 degrees before returning to river
