Companion Crop options mid October onwards

Hi.

I am looking at options for companion cropping in my winter wheat.

I am reluctant to use beans across all of the wheat due to potential nematode pressure, I might top up the volunteers after beans as last year I didn't get a good enough coverage to comply last year. Linseed won't take that late and my other thought was buckwheat in the spring but another spring like this one and it won't work.

So what other options do I have? or is it best to just take it on the OSR and following beans and forget the rest of the farm?

Been thinking about this. what about a very low rate of spring oats witht the wheat? not an ideal companion, but ticks the box. if youre going to use Topik in the sping anyway. Otherwise cant see mustard, linseed etc germinating at that time. always seems a few spring oats survive the autumn chemical hit.

I'm planning vetch in my barley, don't know much about it though. Was going to broadcast in front of roller. Any cheaper options and what recommended rate.

Are you claiming companion crop or cover crop from the 23 offer?

Last year I put 10kg per acre beans under my wheat. What's the actual regulations to confirm to?

Avoiding beans for the same reason as op.
Plan was spin some oats on cultivated ground ahead of drilling barley. Can't get hold of oats atm.
Thinking mustard instead but not sure how to get it on - I have no pelleter. Don't think would mix in seed v well and probably drill to deep.
This for 23 version of multo species cover

What's the rules? You could clearly see beans across the wheat field.

Can you use oats as it 1 from each group, is oats not in the same category as wheat and barley?
At least 2 species from one or more families
In theory my wheat volunteers in my barley would suffice - finally a benefit to my poor combining skills.
Had it in writing from Janet on a previous thread that vol beans would work, then why not wheat

Brassica, legume, (cereal or grass) and herbs.

So oats barley wheat would all only count as cereal?

I interpret that as 2 from the same family is OK, though why bother mentioning the families? Just something else they either didn't proof read, or deliberately left loose to get us on the hook.

Wheat with beans here, along with grass, clover & volunteer barley, which will morph into a clover ley for next year.

Brown mustard maybe, fert spreader should go low enough

Not sure how far it would spread. I think I'll have to be 12m with the discs I have going with the kuhn app
Hairy vetch is winter hardy and would spread 24m if you can't get there with mustard, it won't make a great show planted in October tbh and is a fair bit dearer, fixes a bit of nitrogen though.
