The shutter in the wag tail was loose and we had 2 acre get 20 kg/acre one year, other field beside it only averaged about 12. Was absolutely no difference at all

I'm not a fan of ploughing ley ground for reseeding , our preferred option is to spray off , li,e then disc Harrow a couple of times , then we have the power harrow with a grass box on it and sow at 11/12 kg /ac , the seed is spread evenly and not in rows , then roll , this is giving us the best results of all systems that we have used.

That sounds good ..............
We would roll after the plough and at any time before sowing, to get the desired firmness.
Leave the seedbed, that you can ride a pushbike across it, well consolidated, not fluffy, then sow.
What you sowing with, or did I miss that bit?
Go both ways if in doubt ..............
Always have a bit of seed leftover (in case you need it for the end) ...........
Some only roll the seed in, we harrow and roll, because we usually roll just before sowing.

Unless ploughed ground is left to settle for a long time it is hard to get a very firm seed bed , also when the sod rots down it sinks and ridges come in to it , when we are tilling ploughed ground the most important machine is the land leveller , it is great for packing soil down and filling holes.

Would always roll after power Harrow and before seed here as seen too many people have failures with seed going too deep in a loose seedbed
Correct , when sowing with the power harrow /Fiona seeder , I have the tines trust hitting the soil with all the weight on the packer , the land leveller will have gone before it , so only the top bit of soil is loose for the seed to fall in to then roll and forget about it.

@multi power test shows very low on both P and K.

Plan so broadcast seed with a Vicon wagtail, has always worked very well for us to be fair.

So from what most are saying I obviously need to firm up the ground after the power harrow, which hopefully I should be able to do by using the harrows, fill in any gaps and just give it a good going over - all over!

Want to leave enough tilth to cover the seed though, so the seed will be lightly harrowed in then given a damn good rolling at the end.

Well the seed will be fine on the top, just roll in ..............
Or if you roll before you sow, lightly harrow after and roll again

You need a little O's then 0:10:20 or 0:10:30 depending ...........

Next week we've a 3 acre field to completely re-seed back to grass. Current sward is very old and tired, full of weeds and moss, very little actual grass. It's not a big patch I know but it provides my customers winter feed for their highland cattle (or at least it used to, hence the need to re-seed).

Plan to use a long-term ley mix from Countrywide as it's the only place I can get enough for just 3 acres. Preferred place has a minimum order of 8 acres.

Our current plan of attack is this;

Plough
Spread lime
Power harrow
Harrow (Ritchie chain/spike harrow with level bars)
Broadcast seed
Lightly harrow
Roll

This may seem very obvious but just doing a bit of research some people say to roll after the plough, roll 2 different ways at the end or forget the power harrow altogether.... Any opinions/ideas appreciated.
They will prefer to spread the lime straight on ploughed ground - well used to any way with the little masseys even with duals on it was a smoother ride ..
You can roll after that and before power harr. if you like,.. it will help if dry enough and it will help keep old turf down under. and help keep the power harrow up a bit.
other than that your list is perfect -(i actually use duals in the last few passes as well)

What sort of soil are you on? That sounds a lot more like fun than ploughing and picking stones!

I'm working for hire and so meet all types of soil , the no stone picking is a big advantage , but the system is getting the best results no matter what type of soil were on.

On our light land we

Glyphosate
Plough
Roll
Lime/fert (in necessary)
2x pass with dowesdwell speed harra
Roll
Seed with opico harrows
Roll
How level are the fields to drive across after . I drove across a field lastweek that was ploughed and reseeded lastyear. , it would nearly cause sea sickness .it was so rough.

Plough it well and preferably in the direction the field will be worked for silage, fert etc. Our land works down very easily also I set the tines in deeper for the first pass. You could drive flat out across most of our temp lays. I hate rough grass fields.
