Concrete lorry stuck in traffic

Ordered concrete last Friday from local depo, for 2 o'clock today.
3.30 came and rang up to find out when it loaded and they said was loaded at 1.15. turned up in my yard at 4 (aka milking time). Driver very apologetic had long hold ups on a30. I scratched my head as the depo I ordered from is near camelford 20 miles from me, and no need to go near a30.
Then he said he came from different depo 50 miles away. Not his fault and he lent hand with shovel as we were man down due to milking. But concrete hardening quickly once out of lorry, he used all his water to keep it workable. What effect will this have on strength. The finish is ugly as it was very sticky when tamping and very hard work to level. What come back do I have now that have layed it. Need another 30cube to finish job.

I don't envy your efforts with the mix 'going off' when you are trying to lay it! My best advice would be, and this is important in this dry weather; Get some sacking/old carpet and place over the area and soak with water. Don't let it dry out for three days. You will increase the curing by this method. I would have got a small dollop and made it into a 6'' cube to send to the crush testing dept if I was more worried but I would certainly be having words with the dispatcher and asking for a substantial discount for the duff load! I wonder if your concrete company name begins with La****e. They have had to do some monopoly juggling and 'customers' always come off worst:mad:
