concrete panels or blocks

Hi what thickness panels would i need for a general purpose shed 80 x 30 in 20ft bays 8ft high so 2 4ft panels to use as a tempory grain store for storing some grain, (the grain wouldnt be pilled 8ft high!) until it is collected and the rest of the time it will be just for everything else. Grain would be scooped up by telehandler. the building is an exsisting building and was designed as a general purpose building so panels can be whichever thickness would be needed.

Would 90mm be ok or would they have to be 140mm or would it be better blocked?

Many thanks

90mm are only for stock aren't they?

90mm wouldn't last 5 minutes with my bro in-law on the loader:eek: panels are great if you change your mind or are a tenant.(y) Shuttered walls are easier to stop water coming in though.

Forget blocks, they break up too easily and unless filled and re-barred in every cavity have no strength esp to stand the force of a loader pushing the grain sideways as you load, need the re bar to lock into the floor pad too. Panels are far better IMO and we have done lots of both over the years, 90 mm would be fine at that depth and your envisaged use I reckon.

Panels all the way. To satisfy yourself the best thing to do is call the various panel suppliers you wish to use and tell them your shed size, bay sizes and amount of grain you wish to store and they will calculate for free which panels you need, then quote for those panels.

Milbury Systems 01594 847500 are good and usually on the mark with pricing, especially as your close. Haulage is often the killer on panels. Ask for Phil Seabury.

11 years ago we block walled a shed that should've had panels, we back filled etc but the small amount we saved on panels I'm sure we lost facing about backfilling the blocks.
Since then we've done 2 sheds with panels from Dalecrete, good products at a good price

+1 for Dalecrete , best panels we've used ,especially the cast in lifting threads saves having to mastic up the holes

Got to highlight the quality of our local company Page concrete and Steel Ltd. Great panels, and a wide range of products, also. Saw one of the brothers recently and he said they were very busy, even an order for water troughs going to Scotland. Found the lady on the phone a bit short but once past that the products are great!!

They supply a few merchants in south west Scotland with their water troughs due to design and quality.
