Connecting land drains to gutter downpipes

@SilliamWhale, can I conclude from your post that you want to take your downpipes into the ground and connect directly to the drain pipes? I don't understand why anyone would want to do that, although plenty do.

When I bought my current house, mine were like that with the water going into soakaways. I think that it's a stupid idea as, over time, leaves, moss off the roof and other detritus will end up blocking up the soakaways. I know that you can get baskets to put in the top of the downpipes, but that only means that you have to climb a ladder to inspect and clear them.

Far better to have a gulley with a grid at ground level, so that you can see if it gets blocked and clearing it is only a matter of bending down. I changed my downpipes to this system.

We had same issues with a building with down pipes straight into land drain. After a few years blocked drains 200 meters down field with bits of straw, moss and general shite. As said above run it into a gridded gully first then 110 mm osma pipe. The fix that to land drain with one of those rubber adapters with the jubilee clips on.
