Connor bale wrapper

Got an old connor bale wrapper. Its an early one which has the oil pipes running into the spool block in the cab with the turn counter. Hate the fact that theres oil pipes running into cab aswell its a fair old lump to lift up into a cab.All tractors now have atleast 3 spool valves so thinking of doing away with wrappers own spool block and using the tractors spools meaning i only need the counter in the cab. Will it be possible to pipe it up this way? Turntable will likley need a return but bale tip and lifting arm are just double acting. Any suggestions or advice welcome

Did exactly this to a McHale 991 that had spool block lifted into cab

Needed 4 spools for it though: Bale lift arm and turntable were double acting, and bale tip and bale cut were both single acting

Each lever on the wrapper spool block will have either one or two pipes. Number of levers = number of tractor spools needed. If two pipes connected to the spool slice, it's double acting. One pipe and it's single acting; you need to put the tractor spool into float for the other direction

How does the wrap cutter work?

Did it work well? Mines an automatic cut and hold. so i will have 2 pipes for turntable, forward and reverse. 2 pipes for loading arm, up and down then a single pipe for bale tip. Hopefully can then set timer for electric spool to finish turning after correct amount of turns. Did you have a return on the orginal set up but do away with it after you plumped straight to spools?

Aye, originally there was feed and return pipe from wrapper block that plugged into tractor

Did away with those, and just piped outlets from each slice into tractor spool. Was worried the table motor would "see" too much back pressure returning it through the tractor spool instead of a free flow return, but must've done over 5k bales with it like that and had no issues

While I had electric spools on the tractor, the flow rate varied a bit with engine revs. Meant I couldn't set a timer for the turntable.

Instead I manually held one spool until the counter beeped. Easy to slow the thing down that way if there was a mis-shaped bale

Programmed the headland management with timers for bale tip and cut, though obviously that's not necessary on yours

Brilliant, will be getting it out next week from winter storage and will make a start in. Thanks for your help.

All piped up and working now, all 3 spools were double acting, still needed a return as there was a small return coming from the rear ramp to let bale down softly. Seems to work fine and alot easier than lifting the old setup into the cab. Be a week or so yet to try it properly.
