Construction industry losing red diesel

can i just ask ,who is going to police this ?
Customs and excise so no change there
had all vehicle tanks dipped in our yard before and twice at shows
they will be able to see the fuel invoices of construction sites during vat checks which are all on line now
if they catch use of red when it should not be use the fines are severe and proving innocence is not easy so I am told

Do we have any idea of how many construction vehicles there are in this country running on red ,cement mixers ,wacker plates, genny's etc ,and the customs men are going to check them all ?

I once knew a farmer/haulage company onwer. He always ran his range rover on red. He said teh fine was approx £2000. Yet the saving per year was at least double that. I dont think he ever got stopped!

I was under the impression that if caught on red HMRC would assume all miles were on red unless you could prove otherwise at which point duty evaded would be added to a fine.

so will the council be running on white now?
For cutting non agricultural hedges then yes.
Verge work we were always permitted to run on red unless of course HMRC change the rules with the new fuel regulations next April.
I suspect fuel suppliers will not be allowed to deliver red diesel to any non agricultural businesses.

But they are not banning red are they
No but apart from farmers you cannot buy it. Farmers are not licensed to sell fuel on so apart from plant operators who are also farmers , but they will be breaking the law if they continue to use it in plant.
Yes, some have always broken the law, regretfully , hopefully they will get caught

That's interesting. I just can't fathom how it would work here as there will be large livestock farmers using a lot of fuel on limited acres and then large arable farmers using very little in comparison. I think it would be like opening a can of worms
There is a huge table listing all different operations for every crop with an average fuel consumption per hectare. I am not that up to date, but there should be also a provision for road work for things like slurry tanking, which should cover big livestock farms with relatively little land.
