Construction industry losing red diesel

How do you think the government are going to persuade us to go green?

By taxing the dirty diesel and those who use it.
We will be next.
No other economic way to make us change to the green alternative. Green has to be cheaper so make everything dirty more expensive by tax. Win win.
Whats the green alternative for a 28 yr old 110hp tractor with a budget for replacement of 20k? asking for a friend

Also until the fudgewits tax av gas properly I refuse to take anything seriously. It’s not like my tractor does anything useful is it?

I do not claim to know the future, but if we eat less meat will your friend still need a tractor when his farm is a forest
If he is an arable farmer perhaps it will be uneconomic to plough and a small electric buggie will plant direct 24/7.

Forget change by grants I think it has to be change by tax.

True perhaps he should buy a bow and arrow to hunt for his meat, in his forest.

It may well turn out like that but it will have a negative impact on the output of U.K. agriculture whilst the need for food to feed the general population will remain the same, thus increasing food imports from countries which most likely won’t be following such a policy.

There seems to be a fair bit of confusion about it all.
DERV stands for Diesel Engined Road vehicles.
Boat owners were told that they would not be allowed to continue to use Red. This was due to the UK flouting EU fuel marker dye rules. However, Rishi Sunak indicated in the 2021 Budget that Boats can continue to use Red.

I really can’t see that flushing tractor tanks from Red to White for snow clearing is going to happen. The Red dye stains any fuel tank and will release back into white diesel. This can be detected easily when dipping a tank. I’ve known farmers who run a lorry be caught out by a delivery driver not flushing his delivery pipe for long enough.
When it comes to clearing snow, it’ll be a case of JFDI.

I think if anyone needs to be taxed because they are flush, it is the like of Amazon and other tech companies, who are destroying our town infrastructure through the present tax structure and not putting anything back.

Thing is, our economy is based on a) house price rises and b) besncounters, legal parasites and assorted spivs.

Build houses to satisfy demand, and simplify tax structures and suddenly the harsh reality shows up IE that we essentially just do nothing.b

I don’t do equestrian maintenance work or horse muck removal because I cannot pass on the cost of DERV to my customers nor do I want the hassle of switching over.
Where we could charge £40 to remove a trailer load of muck for spreading here, the fully licenced waste disposal company charges £200 and takes it to landfill or the incinerator, but often they don’t even turn up. The result of course is that horse muck gets dumped in low areas of paddocks or is burnt, both practices being very environmentally damaging.
This is what happens in practice. People don’t have an unlimited income to draw upon.
Forcing the construction industry to use DERV will result in them passing on costs to customers. Property ownership is becoming the preserve of the rich and heaping on costs will only speed up this process. As for the ordinary worker on minimum wage I really do feel for them. Priced out of private property, soon to be priced out of private transport, living a hand to mouth existence. The government needs to careful how far it pushes people.

I couldn't "like" this post, but I fear that you are right. I can see anything involving energy use being taxed to encourage us to adopt less energy intensive practices. I see nitrogen fertiliser & fuel being top of the list for turning the screws.

Taxing energy use is low hanging fruit for Rishi Sunak to a) raise revenue to pay for the pandemic/QE and b) use saving the planet as an excuse.
