Consumed toxic substance - Sheep

A bunch of ewe escapees managed to find their way to our stash of wheat seed this evening. A few of them look like they’ve had a right munch judging by the colour on their chin.

I’m a bit worried that this could be curtains for them if they’ve taken too much!

What can I do for them to flush it through their system?! Parafin? Should I give them a jag of antibiotics as well to cover them?

Trust sheep to make a boring Sunday more eventful!

A few hundred ml of bicarb be enough in the first instance? Would do her again in a few hours.
yes mix up a good strong mix in a drench bottle do every 6 hrs or so , good dose of white ab as well for few days , you might get away with it , we lost 12 ewes out of 50 in a grainstore a long while ago, very distressing, though a lot did bounce back after about a week , the ones that died we cut open and rumen was full of wheat ,

14 ewes drenched and dosed with ABs. Fingers crossed they’re still there in the morning.

Just out of interest what ratio do you mix the bicarb with water? It’s not something I use often.

i just used a pot from co-op in litre of warm water , (needed a few ) will notice they are lame first (laminitis ) as acidity gets into blood stream , then go down after about 18hrs , they will get the 8ihtts as well , you will know by morning .
i get a hot sweat every time i see a unsecured pheasant feeder or lid loose when out on keep lol

I’m not too hopeful. This was treated seed they have munched and all I know is that bag says this seed must not be consumed!

the seed dressing wont make a lot of odds to it its the acidosis you need to focus on.

Doubt that seed dressing will worry them too much unless it is an insecticide one. It doesn't seem to kill mice and rats, or rooks for that matter. Horrible thing to happen, and above suggestions are about all you can do.
Had a party of tups escape into shed of oats once, and no ill consequences of that at all other than squits. but more fibre and less starch I guess.

The irony is that if you tried to kill a sheep by giving it access to treated wheat seed, I can almost guarantee that it wouldn't work. But there would be a much better chance of succeeding if the wheat was finely ground first.

well done maybe they didnt eat as much as thought , are they experienced ewes or young uns

Bit of a mixture of young and older ewes with lambs. Still looking ok. Will give them one more drench of bicarb later and if they’re ok in the morning we’ll hopefully be out of the woods!
