Container storage # 2

I've got a 16000 sf shed that could house 24x 40' shipping containers.

Will I need PP if they're under cover ?
How much do the containers cost ?
How heavy are they ( will the Manipoo lift them) ?
How much do people charge for storage per week/ month/ year ?
Do you draw up formal contracts with tenants ?
What happens when plonkers don't pay up ?
What happens when plonkers disappear off the face of the planet, and leave you with their junk ?
What happens when plonkers turn up at 3 o'clock in the morning ?

Is it worth the mither ?

Thoughts please......
TIA.

Are you in an area that would suit caravan storage? That sound an idea shed for it and would be far less expensive to set up and pays pretty well for not much work, I have nearly 30 vans stored in two sheds and it is money for old rope and I could fill them 3 times over in a matter of months. Had enquiries for 6 this last week alone.

...and if you get a towball fitting on the front of your manitou then you can move then into place easier
That begs the next question...what sort of insurance would I need.....moving an expensive boat with the Manitou could end in an expensive mishap + annoyed plonker.

Yes, ideal but many vans now have motor movers on them and the owners dont need to know how to reverse with a van now thank god. I do use my Merlo to shove them around though at times.

container storage around here is about £25/week for a 20ft'er

no need to put them in a shed though - just on some hard standing, rent the shed for something else

Not sure if you need PP or not, I expect you do as you do for caravan storage

I have recently put my prices up due to demand. For inside storage I charge £10 a week now. Outside is £7 but only just started that.

Sheds are secured and the entrance is covered by CCTV remotely recorded.

Insurance is their responsibility, they all sign a disclaimer that I accept zero responsibility.

On the whole they are decent folk and have only had one idiot but I kicked him out after 3 months. Some of them been with me for 5 or 6 years now.

The best are the ones who only take their van out once a year, rest of the time it sits there gathering dust and paying me money.

IIRC, planning permission is not needed if moveable, and that they are moved every 3 years (only feet), but better check first

Log cabins don't need PP, and people fit them with skids so they can drag them a few feet every few years

Thanks for that....so a 40' bay would take 2 vans, x £10 week, x 6 months would be £480 for 6 months storage.
I rent out a bay for machinery storage for £300 / bay ATM, if I upped it to £4-450, I wouldn't be that far off caravan storage prices.

we had an application for caravan storage turned down years ago, things might have changed though as that was at least a decade ago
