It's a great break crop for any arable farmer
We grew it very successfully 20 years ago --- the two failing points back then were;
1) Having access to a harvester ---there are now better headers/machines available (can be hired i think?)
2) Marketing ---i would want a good contract with possibly the buyer putting some money upfront ---paying for seed maybe?

Otherwise it was easy ---grows quickly and smothers weeds . On our chalk there was no problem with harvesting and it grew well
Anyone that is interested in smoking the stuff knows that hemp doesn't get you high ---i think 20 years ago we put a story in the local paper about it so that no one got too wound up about it or tried to smoke it
This was a 70 acre field i think ---a dry summer but it still thrived ----but we ended up chopping it due to the failure of the machinery to turn up

Good to hear! Thanks for this.

We can definitely help sorting out any issues with a harvester/ header, and there are many different options for contracts. Some with 'money' up front, others with finance, others with nothing.

Anyone interested can PM me, I can share my mobile number and we can have a chat about it all in more detail.

Would the obvious choice not be to cut it as a whole and bale it. Then process the seed out of it in one location and the straw can be used in other products?
Seeds have to be separated and dried quite quickly, you are probably going to lose a fair bit of crop that way too.

The logistics of moving the bales around, only to bust them open for the seeds is going to turn out quite costly I imagine.

I will raise it and see if it is possible though, it could open us up to more farms.

To all who expressed an interest in our hemp operation:

We are really excited by the number of people who have come forward with a genuine interest, and we will be getting in touch with many of you again soon.

The company have 200ac due to come off in August, and we will be using this at scale test to refine our model and develop our proposal.

There have been some changes to the legislation and the licensing process that have halted our progress, and we are working on a solution.

Thank you all again.
