Averages, same as the beef job. When the going is good in the pig job the main producers will do very well out of the B & B job, however, with a falling pig price, increasing feed price and static housing costs, how do they stand it?
Indeed!!Averages, same as the beef job.
The pig price has been volatile for as long as I can remember.
Even the big players will be feeling a draft at the moment though, with pigs cheap and grain dear.
Indeed!!
Ride the rollercoaster down and then back up again (hopefully)

Your guess is as good as mineWhat are the positives on the horizon? As I see it feed prices will stay high for the next 9 months and pig prices will continue to come under further pressure.
It is a painful ride down and the uphill bit can be very steady. It has cured many operators of contract finishing schemes of their desire to be in the pig market before now.Your guess is as good as mine
The rollercoaster sometimes goes down for more than a year, and vice versa

That is the name of the game at the moment, fine unless your abattoir tells you to hold pigs back. Mine hasn't yet, this weeks order was for double so that we could get the weights down a bit to about 70 dwt. First time ever I have been told to cut my weights. - most of my pigs go to local butchers.Myself included!
I'm now selling 7kg weaners at a fixed price, and trying to buy feed in a risk managed way (easier said than done) via Fram Farmers, so all that leaves us to do is churn out lots of piglets........
About 10p per kg more than the spot market price. What is the cost of production for pigs?
How long is your piece of string? What is the cost of production for pigs?
More than that on current feed pricesAbout 10p per kg more than the spot market price.
If you stop serving sows now it will be 9-10 months before production stopsAre producers slowing down production then?
