Contractor productivity grants

I see that as a contractor I could apply for this grant for machinery this year.
When does this come in s I can't find much information on this.
I've got my eye on a piece of machinery that could fit the criteria for this.
Be really handy getting 40% off the price of the machine.

And 40% off the rate you charge as well? 👍👍

Do what all the rest do and fiddle it.
Plenty of contractors with piddle bars bought by a farmer on the QT

I personally think no one should get a grant, farmer or contractor, but I've already got quotes for machine and if I can get 40% back then I'd be mad not to..

And contractors get arsey about farmers sons under cutting them with Daddy's tractor.
Thats a sub.

Grants are not going to go, I had some years ago through a local food initiative for organic food.
Do what the market requires not what you can get a grant on. 40% on something that doesn't suit is a waste of money!.....or wait until someone else gets a grant and pick up s/h stuff cheap!

Back to you OP more details coming out later in the year, a lot of people are going to be holding back on decisions this year to see what the new schemes bring.

One thing I would like to see is something on tyres for equipment.
Better than paying for subsoilers or slitters.
Few 1000 on upgrading tyres on a trailer is better than 10,000 on diesel drinking equipment!

I can’t see the grants will be available until the back end of the year at the earliest, maybe end of October or even maybe the early part of next year. The government hasn’t really said how the new single farm payment will work yet apart from planting trees and being paid to grow scrub to keep the bees happy so I wouldn’t hold your breath for some money to buy equipment.

At worst the grants will be for equipment specifically for the new subs, i.e tree planters !! etc.

Never had a penny in subsidy or support, its all been earned and paid for through graft what we have.
Maybe have to wait see what grants come available, can see a bit of an opening for such a machine coming up, currently offer such a service but such a machine would be more efficient.

By more efficient do you mean profitable? Does the service not stack up in its current format? Does it not warrant investment without being subsidised? Forgive me if this sounds negative but as a contractor you have limited risk vs. Mr Farmer as you charge a fee for a set activity, your business is not affected by market price of product or weather the same as the actual farmer who has much more skin in the game. Unsure why a contractor would / should be allowed access to this or any such grant.

On that side the contractor doesn't pay for the machine but the farmer does.

Watch carefully as the BPS drops away and the money isn't on farm like it was.

Make do and mend I think will become more common.

Contractors have a fair risk, risk of not being paid! And the market prices do reflect on contracting rates down the line.
A contractor that uses the grant will be able to invest in say a direct drill and that work can spread out over many farms and be cheaper than each individual farmer investing in a single machine, which is what the grant is for

Not sure I agree with this statement. As a contractor with a small farm on the side I see both sides of the coin.
Somebody told me once "it's okay for you, you know exactly how much your making every time a bale drops off the back of your machine"
Right until the point someone puts a silage pit in, we have a prolonged dry spell and the grass wilts in front of your eyes, the cowboy down the road undercuts you or you have a big breakdown.
The work is not guaranteed but the finance payments are.
Working around the countryside over the years I've seen sheds, silage pits adding to the value of the holding and gps systems all paid for by grant schemes and in the main to larger farms.
Why shouldn't a contractor be included so smaller farms can enjoy the benefits of gps, section control or a direct drill?

If the contractor is doing the work for the smaller farmer then he can, just employ the contractor with the equipment rather then take the grant and add £to it to get the kit himself.
